Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Notre Dame sets season-high shooting percentage as offense sparks road win

WASHINGTON, D.C. – After scoring under 80 points the past two games, Notre Dame College was due for an offensive outburst and the Falcons got that on Saturday, as they posted the second most points this season in an 88-67 win over the University of the District of Columbia. NDC also set a season-high by shooting 55.7-percent from the field.

The win marks NDC's second victory of the year away from home and first true road win of the season.

Early in the contest, Notre Dame played solid defense around the hoop. The Falcons forced two missed layups and junior Andre Harris had a block in the first two minutes of the contest. On the offensive end, sophomore Jevontae Jones knocked down a three at the beginning of the game. Then, Jones sent the ball up the floor to sophomore Devin Haid for a fastbreak layup.

The Falcons led, 7-4, with 16:37 on the first half clock, but UDC quickly went on a 7-0 run to grab a four-point advantage (11-7).

Junior RJ Ogom came off the bench and provided a spark right away. He went to the hoop for a layup and then knocked down a corner 3-pointer to put the Falcons back in front, 12-11. As the game approached the 11-minute mark in the first stanza, Ogom took a pass and drove to the hoop, making the layup and taking contact. He knocked down the free throw and tied the game at 18.

Ogom had 16 points in the first half on 6-of-8 shooting from the field.

Notre Dame struggled to break through and regain the lead, but finally did it with just under 10 minutes remaining before the half. That's when NDC went on a 9-3 run with junior Joshua Dames, Haid and junior Davin Zeigler hitting three consecutive threes.

NDC made seven of its 13 three pointers taken in the first 20 minutes.

At a timeout with 6:41 on the clock, Notre Dame led UDC, 31-27, and were shooting 67-percent from the field and 54-percent from three. The Falcons never gave the lead back the rest of the game.

The Firebirds tied the game at 31, but the Falcons had a response when junior Gbolahan Adio knocked down a triple. Notre Dame then stretched the lead out and scored the final four points of the first half. Harris stole the ball twice in the final two minutes, leading to a dunk by Adio and a layup by Ogom.

At halftime, the Falcons led 44-35. The two teams had similar numbers at the half, with NDC shooting 55-percent and the University of D.C. shooting 54-percent, from the field. However, Notre Dame knocked down five more threes than the Firebirds.

In a shock to no one in the building, the Falcons' first two baskets of the second half were three pointers by Adio and Haid. A minute-and-a-half later, Zeigler sent the ball up to Harris for a dunk and, on the next possession, Zeigler swung the ball over to Harris for a three. NDC led by 11 points, 55-44, with 16:11 to go in the game.

The Falcons continues to find their way to the basket as Haid dunked and freshman Cameron Johnson drove for a layup to cap an 11-2 run, which gave NDC a 63-46 lead.

Notre Dame's lead jumped to 24 points, 74-50, after Dames knocked down his second shot from long range. After that point, the closest that the University of the District of Columbia could get was 17.

Nine Falcons made at least one basket in the final 20 minutes. NDC continued shooting the ball well, going 18-for-32 (56-percent) from the field while UDC shot just 28-percent in the second half.

Four players finished the game with double-digit points with RJ Ogom leading the team with 16. Adio had 14, Haid added 12 and Harris had 11. Zeigler gave the Falcons six assists and both Harris and freshman Robbie Cass stole the ball twice.

NDC had double the fast break points as UDC, with 24. The Falcons also finished the game with 22 assists, the second most in a game this season.

Notre Dame will stay in the Washington, D.C. area when they battle Washington Adventist University, on Dec. 18. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
