Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Notre Dame goes on a run to close both halves before falling in overtime

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Following the Thanksgiving break, Notre Dame College jumped back into conference play with an entertaining game against Glenville State University. The Falcons went on a 14-4 run at the end of the first half to lead by one point at halftime. NDC then went on a 10-3 run to end the second half and force overtime. Ultimately, Glenville State walked away with an 88-87 victory.

Notre Dame had balanced scoring throughout the contest, as four players finished in double-digits and six had at least eight points. That was evident early on as junior Gbolahan Adio scored a couple baskets, junior Andre Harris knocked down two free throws, sophomore Jevontae Jones caught a lob dunk off an Adio pass and senior Trent Williams came off the bench and hit a free throw.

The Falcons and GSU went back and forth, with NDC leading by one, 11-10, with 14:03 to go in the first half.

Over the next four and-a-half minutes, Glenville State began to put a run together, outscoring the Falcons 13-3 to lead by nine points, 23-14, with under 10 minutes remaining in the first stanza.

After struggling to shoot from long range as a team for much of the half, freshman Cameron Johnson's three pointer, with five minutes remaining, started the Falcons' run before the halftime break. Junior Kaleb Torrence also hit a triple, three and-a-half minutes later, to close the gap to two points, 31-29.

And with under one minute to go, second chance opportunities helped give NDC the boost it needed. Following a GSU block, Johnson grabbed the ball and scored from under the basket. On the next possession, Jones grabbed an offensive rebound and hit a layup to tie the game at 33. The Falcons went into the break leading, 34-33.

NDC's defense held Glenville State to 32-percent shooting from the field in the first 20 minutes and posted six steals and six blocks.

The Falcons were ready to go in the second half. After giving up an early three, NDC's junior RJ Ogom drove in for a layup, GSU then turned the ball over and NDC's freshman Robbie Cass got a friendly bounce off the rim on a made three-point shot to give NDC the lead. Adio sunk a jumper to cap NDC's 7-0 run and push their lead to five, 41-36.

Adio had 17 points in the game and a career-high six assists. Ogom finished with 11 points and seven rebounds and Cass added eight points.

Glenville State slowly came back to tie the game at 49, with 11:23 on the second half clock. And then, between the 10:48-mark to the 4:30-mark, the game featured 11 lead changes and four ties.

But, the Pioneers found a way to create separation on the scoreboard, and with 2:36 to go, a layup by Dominiq Penn gave GSU a seven-point advantage, 73-66.

The Pioneers would shoot 46-percent from the field in the second half, including seven made three pointers. However, Notre Dame nearly got the last laugh as they outscored Glenville State 10-3 in the final 2:25 of regulation. Adio made a layup to cut the deficit to five, before Glenville turned the ball over three times in just over 30 seconds of game time. Harris stole the ball and went down for a layup and then Johnson cut off a Pioneer pass and had an open lane for a dunk.

Harris finished the game with a career-high 22 points and four steals to go along with 11 rebounds. Johnson added 12 points and seven rebounds in 23 minutes off the bench.

Nearing the end of regulation, GSU went up by two with a pair of free throws. The Falcons took the ball down to the other end and Adio missed a three, but Harris was there with the offensive rebound and put the ball back up and into the hoop to tie the game at 76, with 32 seconds to go.

In overtime, Glenville State jumped out to a big lead, again. An immediate 5-0 GSU run put the Falcons in a position they had become familiar with. Less than three minutes were on the clock when Notre Dame began its comeback and put together a 6-0 run to take an 84-83 lead.

Penn knocked down a three for the Pioneers and then Adio showed no fear by sinking a three for the Falcons. GSU would get the ball back and took an 88-87 lead on a tough layup by Devin Collins. The Falcons had one last chance, but Glenville put up a defensive stop at the rim as the time ran out.

The Falcons will now travel to play Concord University, on Dec. 2, with a 4 p.m. tip-off.
