Back in action for the first time in over a week, NDC battles Glenville State, Concord

This Week: Notre Dame College men's basketball is back on the home floor, tomorrow at 7:30 p.m., against Glenville State University. NDC will head to West Virginia, on Dec. 2, for a matchup with Concord University, at 4 p.m.

Records: NDC played one game last week and currently holds a 2-2 record, with a 1-1 Mountain East Conference mark. Glenville State is 2-3, overall, with a 1-1 record in MEC play. Concord has a record of 4-1 (1-1 MEC).
 
Coaches Corner: Mark Richmond is in year five with the Falcons. He has a coaching record of 51-58 (40-44 MEC). Bob Bolen is in his first season on the sideline at Glenville State. Todd May is now in his eighth season at the helm of the Concord program. May is 102-97, overall, with a 72-79 conference record.

Rankings: None of these teams are in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches Division II top 25 poll. Concord is in seventh place in the Atlantic Region of the Division II College Sports Communicators regional poll.
 
Series History: Notre Dame has an 11-9 record all-time versus Glenville State. These two teams each have had long winning streaks in the series. NDC won six straight from 2015-17 and GSU won five in a row from 2019-21. However, the Falcons have won the last three meetings. Notre Dame and Concord have had many close battles since 2013. The Falcons lead the series, 11-10, but Concord has won two of the last three matchups.

Noting the Falcons: Notre Dame is looking to get into a rhythm with a couple weeks of conference play coming up, before the holiday break. The Falcons have played two games in the last 17 days.
 
On Nov. 21, NDC traveled to play No. 2 West Liberty, who represented the second top-four ranked team that the Falcons have played this season. Notre Dame scored 55 points, and shot 61-percent from the field, in the second half, but the Hilltoppers scored over 100 points in the game to beat the Falcons, 109-84. Jevontae Jones posted career-highs in points (20), rebounds (12) and blocks (3). Jones shot 8-for-9 from the field. RJ Ogom added 19 points.
 
Notre Dame leads the MEC in free throw percentage, shooting 80-percent, offensive rebounds per game, at 14.8 per game, and blocked shots, at 6.5 per game. The Falcons rank second in the conference by holding opponents to a 40.3-percent shooting percentage and rank second in team rebounding average (44.3). The Falcons also rank fourth in the Mountain East Conference by allowing opponents to shoot 31.6-percent from three. In the national rankings, the Falcons lead all of Division II in blocks per game and rank 12th in rebounds per contest.
 
RJ Ogom (17 points per game) and Devin Haid (14.8) are both in the top five in the MEC in scoring. Ogom leads the league with a .538 field goal percentage and is second in free throw shooting (96-percent). Haid leads the conference with a perfect 16-for-16 mark at the free throw stripe. Andre Harris leads the conference in rebounding average (9.5) and Ogom (6.3) is eighth. RJ Ogom (2) and Andre Harris (1.5) rank fourth and sixth, respectively, in blocks per game.

Noting the Pioneers: Glenville State is 2-0 at home this season, but 0-3 away from the Waco Center. In the first two games of the season, the Pioneers scored at least 100 points, but in the three games since, they have not scored over 84. GSU lost both of the games in which they scored at least 100 points, which included a 140-108 loss to Gannon, on Nov. 10, the most points given up by the program since they allowed 158 to West Liberty, in 2018.
 
Glenville State began last week with a 91-83 loss against Charleston. The Pioneers shot 47-percent from the field and 42-percent from three, but UC shot 48-percent and made 15 three pointers. Devin Collins had 22 points and eight rebounds in 32 minutes off the bench, while Jay Scott added 17 points off the bench. Jordan Smith had 15 points, eight assists and three steals. Glenville State beat Malone, 83-69, over the weekend. GSU had six players score in double digits, as Remy Lemovou led the way with 14 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks.
 
GSU is the second highest scoring team in the MEC (91.6 points per game), but allow the most points (97.4). The Pioneers lead the conference in three-point shooting (38.3-percent) and rank third in field goal percentage (45.5). They do allow the most opponent rebounds per game, at 44.4 per game, but they protect the ball with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 4.6. Glenville is 16th in NCAA Division II in bench point, with an average of 39.4.
 
Dominiq Penn averages 14.2 points per game to lead the Pioneers and Remy Lemovou is bringing down an average of six rebounds per game. Penn ranks second in the MEC by shooting 52-percent from the field and ranks fifth by making 2.4 threes per game. Jordan Smith ranks second in steals per game (2.8) and fifth in assists per game (4.8).
 
Noting the Mountain Lions: Concord is off to its best start through five games since the 2015-16 season. That year, the Mountain Lions won 22 games. To start this season, CU defeated No. 4 ranked Indiana University of Pennsylvania, on the road, by a score of 61-57.
 
CU played just one game last week, an impressive 73-71 victory over West Virginia State. WVSU led, 49-38, at halftime, but Concord outscored the Yellow Jackets, 35-22, in the second stanza. The Mountain Lions held West Virginia State to 28-percent shooting from the field and 1-for-7 shooting from long range in the second half. Jevon Laidler had 17 points and Kollin Tolbert had a double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds) for Concord.
 
Concord is holding teams to 74.2 points per game, which is fifth-best in the conference. Opponents shoot 41.3-percent from the field and 31.8-percent from three against the Mountain Lions, both rank in the top five of the MEC. Concord rebounds well, leading the MEC in team rebounds per game (45.8), defensive rebounds (31.2) and is second in offensive rebounds (14.6). Concord is seventh in the country in rebounds per game and 12th in blocks per game (5.2).

Kollin Tolbert is fifth in the league with an average of 14.8 points per game. Tolbert (7.4 per game) and JJ Harper (7.3) rank fourth and fifth, respectively, in rebounding. Tolbert shoots 49.1-percent from the field, which is fourth best in the MEC, and Jevon Laidler shoots 92.9-percent from the free throw line, which ranks sixth. Rene Diop blocks 2.8 shots per game, which is at the top of the MEC.
