FINDLAY, Ohio – Notre Dame College had four wrestlers place in the top eight at the Findlay Open.
La'Ron Parks took the top spot at heavyweight and
Marvelous Rutledge placed second at 197.
At 285 lbs., No. 6 ranked Parks swept the day, by going 5-0 and winning his weight class. He defeated Cleary's Roberto Perez via tech fall and then got past Gannon's Matt Long by decision. He easily moved through the quarterfinal, with an 8-1 decision, and the semifinal, with a 10-3 decision. The native of Euclid, Ohio went up against Central Michigan's Caden Ferris in the First-Place Match and won via decision (6-1).
Rutledge went 4-1 at 197 lbs. He pinned Jay Johnson (Indiana Tech), 22 seconds into the bout. He snuck past Kaden Hooker (Wisconsin-Parkside) with a 5-4 decision and then won by decision (11-4) over Andrija Ivanovic, to get to the Semifinals. The sophomore won in sudden victory in the semis, but lost in sudden victory in the First-Place Match.
Melvin Patterson put in a lot of work on Saturday, wrestling eight times and coming home with a sixth-place finish at 165. He went 6-2, winning by decision, two major decisions and a pin of Ashland's Brodyn Butcher.
Matthew Kaufmann won his first three matchups of the day and would finish in eighth place, at 149. All four of Kaufmann's wins on Saturday were pins and one of his two losses came against No. 9 ranked Chris Donathan.
Notre Dame will compete at the Carolina Clash Duals at Lander University, on Dec. 2.
