FROSTBURG, Md./CLEVELAND – Last weekend, Notre Dame College started conference play by taking a trip to Frostburg State University. The Falcons fell to FSU, on Nov. 11, by a score of 29-22. On Sunday, a few Falcons wrestled at the Ohio Intercollegiate Open, hosted by Case Western Reserve University.
Notre Dame fell into a large deficit early in the matchup with Frostburg State. Senior
Matthew Kaufmann started to turn the Falcons around with a dominant performance against Gage Heilbrun, at 149 lbs. He won with a tech fall (17-1) to give NDC five points, making the dual score 17-5 in favor of FSU.
NDC would win four of the final five bouts and closed within seven points of the Bobcats. At 165, sophomore
Melvin Patterson won by decision (6-3) over Liam DeBaugh, at 165. Redshirt-freshman
Joseph King had the Falcons' only pin of the day in his win over Joseph Colony at the 3:56 mark.
The Falcons continued to post victories as sophomore
Marvelous Rutledge was able to move his opponent around the mat in a one-sided battle that resulted in a 22-5 tech fall, at 197. Junior
La'Ron Parks then finished the meet with a 6-3 decision at heavyweight, over Gavin Bage.
Alec Hall and
Ryan McMiller competed for the Falcons at 184 lbs. and 197, respectively, in the Ohio Collegiate Open.
Notre Dame will travel to the Findlay Open, on Nov. 18, for a 9 a.m. start
