Women's basketball set with WV Wesleyan and Davis & Elkins this week

This Week: The Notre Dame College women's basketball team heads down to West Virginia Wesleyan College on Wednesday Feb. 1 at 5:30 p.m. Next, the Falcons will host Davis & Elkins College on Saturday Feb. 4 at 2 p.m.
 
Records: NDC begins the week at 5-15 (4-10 MEC), and tied for eighth place in the Mountain East Conference. WVWC is 3-14 (2-12 MEC) and in 12th place in the MEC. D&E sits at 4-14 (4-10 MEC) and tied for eighth place in the MEC.
 
Coaches Corner: Imani Gordon is in her second season as the head coach of Notre Dame College, holding a career record of 20-29. Brett Vincent is also in his second season with WV Wesleyan, with a career record of 6-36. Donna Carr is the head coach of D&E in her first season.
 
Rankings: None of these teams are ranked according to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association of America (WBCA) Poll.
 
Series History: NDC holds an 18-1 all-time record against WV Wesleyan, dating back to their first meeting in 2013-14, and including the Falcons' 75-65 win in overtime back on Dec. 10. Notre Dame is 5-1 all-time against Davis & Elkins, dating back to their first meeting in 2019-20 and including the Senators 69-67 victory back on Dec. 7.
 
Noting the Falcons: Last week, Notre Dame dropped both of their contests, 67-50 on Wednesday to Concord and 98-59 on Saturday at No. 5 Glenville State.
 
For the season, the Falcons flash a pair of double-digit scorers in redshirt sophomore Alana Ellis (16.1 ppg) and freshman Noel Weathers (10.1 ppg).
 
Ellis has paced NDC all season, ranking seventh in the Mountain East Conference in points per game. The Twinsburg, Ohio native leads Notre Dame in field goals made (115) and attempted (319), three-pointers attempted (99) and free throw attempts (75).
 
Along with scoring 10.1 ppg, Weathers corrals a team-high 6.8 rebounds per game, ranking tied for 10th in the MEC. The talented freshman also leads the Falcons in field goal percentage (48%) and blocks per game (1.0). The Cincinnati, Ohio native is seated fourth in the conference in blocked shots per game.
 
Senior Marina Adachi offers 8.7 ppg, along with a team-leading 32 three-point field goals and .395 three-point percentage.
 
Junior Lizzie Imrie tallies 7.0 ppg, 5.8 rpg, and a team-best 2.1 assists per game. Imrie ranks 21st in the MEC in assists per game. In addition, she leads the Falcons with 53 made free throws, while being 10th in the conference in free throw percentage (75.7%).
 
As a whole, Notre Dame averages 61.5 ppg on 37.3% shooting from the floor, 29.1% shooting from three and 67.6% shooting from the charity stripe. The Falcons grab 32.6 rebounds per game (-9.6 margin), 10.2 assists per game, 8.7 steals per game and 2.6 blocks per game.
 
Noting the Bobcats: Last week, West Virginia Wesleyan split their pair of contests, beginning with a 58-55 win at Wheeling. Courtney Wilfong led the game with 15 points. On Saturday, WVWC lost at home 77-35 to West Liberty.
 
The Bobcats are led offensively by their lone double figure scorer in Emma Witt (14.8 ppg). Witt is seated 13th in the MEC in points per game. Witt also leads the squad in field goals made (98) and attempted (238), free throws made (45) and attempted (68) and steals (26).
 
Four Bobacats average between 8.0 and 7.0 ppg, with Daveona Hatchell tallying 7.8 ppg, and team-high 6.2 rpg, ranking 15th in the MEC.
 
M'laya Ainsworth is the team's top shooter with 27 made three-pointers at a 34.6% clip, averaging 7.1 ppg.
 
Courtney Wilfong is the top facilitator, tied for seventh in the MEC with 3.4 apg, while scoring 7.2 ppg.
 
As a unit, West Virginia Wesleyan averages 57.2 ppg on 36.9% shooting from the floor, 29.0% shooting from three and 60.0% from the free throw line. The Bobcats add 38.1 rpg (+0.6 margin), 9.8 apg, 7.1 spg and 1.6 bpg.
 
Noting the Senators: Last week, Davis & Elkins fells during both of their games, 90-60 at West Liberty on Wednesday, followed by an 81-73 defeat to Wheeling on Saturday.
 
Taylor Smith fuels the Senators on offense, averaging a team-high 15.9 ppg and 2.8 apg. In addition, Smith is the team's top shooting threat with 45 three-pointers made and a .425 three-point percentage. Amongst the MEC, Smith ranks ninth in scoring, 10th in apg, third in three-point percentage and fifth in three-pointers made per game (2.5).
 
She is joined by Ellie Wilkerson's 12.4 ppg, and team-leading 6.9 rpg. Wilkerson is tied for 15th in the conference in scoring, while being ninth in rebounding.
 
As a group, Davis & Elkins averages 68.2 ppg on 41.4% shooting from the floor, 29.5% shooting from three and 53.4% shooting from the free throw line. The Senators tally 41.8 rpg (-0.8 margin), 13.6 apg, 9.5 spg and 3.4 bpg.
