BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – For the second time this season and fourth time in his career, NDC junior
Ashton Smith has been recognized as the Mountain East Conference's Swimmer of the Week, presented by The Health Plan. The award is the eighth by a Falcon this season, marking the most in a season in NDC program history since joining the GMAC/MEC in 2017-18.
The South Turramurra, Australia native took first-place in four of the seven events he competed in against No. 7 Findlay, Frostburg State and Baldwin Wallace. He reigned victorious in the 200 Medley Relay (1:39.48), 100 Free on both days (47.79 and 48.68) and 200 Free Relay (1:29.68).
Smith secured points for NDC in his other three events, with second-place finishes in the 50 free (21.89) and 200 Free (1:48.63), and a third in the 200 Free Relay on Friday (1:32.33).
Ashton Smith, the reigning MEC Swimmer of the Year, and the NDC men's swim team will back in action on Feb. 7-10 as they seek to defend their back-to-back-to-back MEC crowns at the 2023 GMAC/MEC Championships.
