NDC wrestling prepares to battle West Liberty and Fairmont State

This Week: Notre Dame College wrestling will be back on the road, on Jan. 19, as they matchup against Fairmont State University and West Liberty University in separate duals. West Liberty will host the tri-match, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
 
Records: Notre Dame now has a dual record of 3-5. Fairmont State enters the day with a 10-12 record, after a 38-18 loss to No. 16 Glenville State, on Jan. 11. West Liberty currently has a record of 18-3, picking up a 30-10 win over No. 24 Ashland, on Jan. 12.
 
Coaches Corner: Jordon Tague enters his first season as head coach of the NDC wrestling program. Danny Irwin is now in his fourth season at the helm of the West Liberty program. Gennaro Bonaventura is in his first season with Fairmont State.
 
Rankings: Notre Dame is receiving votes in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division II poll. In that same poll, West Liberty is ranked No. 4 in the country. Individually, West Liberty's Cole Laya is the top wrestler at 125 lbs. and Ty McGeary is ranked No. 3 at 184. Vincent Scollo (133), Jamar Williams (157) and Francesco Borsellino (285) are all ranked No. 6 in their respective weight classes for WLU. Notre Dame's Cale Hoskinson is No. 11 at 157 and La'Ron Parks is No. 11 at heavyweight.
 
Noting the NDC Falcons: Notre Dame wrestled at the Regional Duals, last weekend, hosted by Tiffin University. The Falcons fell to Lake Erie College and Tiffin University. La'Ron Parks had a solid win against Tiffin, defeating No. 12 ranked heavyweight Clayton Ours by decision (3-1). Cale Hoskinson went 1-1 on the day at 157, defeating Lake Erie's Brady O'Connor in a close 1-0 decision.
 
The Falcons have not seen West Liberty yet this season, but did go up against Fairmont State at the Glenville State duals, on Nov. 5. In that dual, FSU won by a score of 33-18, but, NDC's Matthew Kaufmann (149) pinned Addison Courtney and then Rodney Winston Jr. (174) defeated Evan Thompson.
 
Noting the FSU Falcons: Fairmont State has wrestled well against other Mountain East Conference opponents this season, defeating Alderson Broaddus, NDC and Davis & Elkins. Their only conference loss came against No. 16 Glenville State, on Jan. 11. The FSU Falcons had a solid performance at the Averett University Cougar Duals, on Dec. 11, winning five of the six matchups. They went 1-1 against the host, Averett.
 
Noting the Hilltoppers: West Liberty has 18 dual wins already this season and has gone 5-0 at home. They have gone up against nine ranked teams this season, going 6-3 in those duals. WLU also hosted the first Hilltopper Duals of the season, on Dec. 16, and outscored their three opponents 135-10, which included a win over No. 15 Millersville. At the NWCA Division II National Duals, on Jan. 6 and 7, WLU defeated No. 16 Colorado Mesa (20-19) and No. 5 Lander (17-16) and lost to No. 1 Central Oklahoma (38-3) and No. 11 University of Mary (37-3).
 
In addition to wrestling Fairmont State and NDC on Jan. 19, West Liberty will also be going up against No. 16 Glenville State.
