Women's basketball sees pair of MEC foes this week

This Week: The Notre Dame College women's basketball team will continue their road trip on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 5:30 p.m. at Davis & Elkins. The Falcons will return home on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 2 p.m. against West Virginia Wesleyan College for NDC's annual Toy Drive Game.
 
Records:  NDC begins the week at 2-6, including 1-3 inside the Mountain East Conference. D&E sits at 1-7 (1-3 MEC), while WVWC is 0-4 (0-4 MEC).
 
Coaches Corner: Imani Gordon is in her second season as the head coach of Notre Dame College, holding a career record of 17-20. Donna Carr heads the D&E women's basketball program in her first season. Brett Vincent is at the helm of the West Virginia Wesleyan women's basketball team in his second season.
 
Rankings: None of these teams are ranked according to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Poll.
 
Series History: The Falcons are 5-0 all-time when playing the Senators, dating back to their first meeting in 2019-20 and including NDC's pair of victories last season. Notre Dame is 17-1 all-time when facing the Bobcats, dating back to their first meeting in 2013-14 and including NDC's pair of victories last season.
 
Noting the Falcons: Last week, Notre Dame College dropped both of their contests, beginning with a 116-58 defeat to No. 9 Glenville State on Wednesday. The Falcons concluded the week on Saturday with a 77-64 loss at Concord.
 
On the year, redshirt sophomore Alana Ellis has carried the NDC offense by averaging 17.0 points per game, ranking eighth in the MEC. Ellis leads the Falcons in field goals made (46), field goals attempted (123), three-pointers made (13), three-pointers attempted (42), free throws made (14) and free throws attempted (25).
 
Senior Marina Adachi (8.6 ppg), sophomore Karli Anker (8.4 ppg) and sophomore Lilee Carlson (8.2) follow suit for the NDC offense. Adachi leads the team in three-pointers (13) and three-point percentage (43.3%), as Anker holds the top field goal percentage (45.1%) on the squad.
 
Freshman Noel Weathers secures a team-high 6.5 rebounds per game, followed by junior Lizzie Imrie at 4.8. Imrie owns the most assists this season at 13.
 
As a team, Notre Dame is averaging 61.3 ppg on 37.7% shooting from the field, 31.9% shooting from three and 65.0% from the free throw line. The Falcons secure 31.8 rebounds per game (-7.8 margin), 10.3 assists per game, 10.0 steals per game and 2.5 blocks per game.
 
Noting the Senators: Last week, Davis & Elkins dropped their pair of matches, by falling 75-68 on Wednesday at Wheeling, before dropping 81-68 on Saturday to West Liberty. Ellie Wilkerson posted a double-double on Wednesday, before claiming 11 rebounds on Saturday to lead D&E.
 
Taylor Smith leads the Senators offense this season at 13.1 ppg, ranking 17th in the MEC. She leads the team in field goals made (41), field goals attempted (99), three-pointers made (15), three-pointers attempted (41) and free throw percentage (1.000).
 
Wilkerson (11.3) and Kaylee Milbrun (10.4) also join the D&E offense as double-digit scorers. Wilkerson leads the team with a 54.4% field goal percentage and ranks eighth in the MEC with 7.9 rebounds per game.
 
Alexis Smith acts as the Senators point guard with 22 assists on the year, ranking 10th in the MEC at 2.8 assists per game.
 
Marissa Berlin is one of five players in the conference to average at least one block per game.
 
As a whole, Davis & Elkins scores 69.5 ppg on 42.0% shooting from the floor, 28.6% shooting three and 58.8% shooting from the free throw line. The Senators grab 40.8 rpg (-0.2 margin), 14.4 apg, 8.8 spg and 3.3 bpg.
 
Noting the Bobcats: Last week, West Virginia Wesleyan fell on both occasions, extending their losing streak to four straight games. The Bobcats fell 88-47 to West Liberty on Wednesday before another defeat on Saturday, 61-50 vs. Wheeling.
 
Emma Witt is the clear leader of the WV Wesleyan offense as the only player averaging double figures at 13.5 ppg. She leads the team in field goals made (22), field goals attempted (55), free throws made (9) and free throws attempted (18).
 
Electra Allembert is next with 7.3 ppg as she leads the squad in field goals percentage (54.5%).
 
Akalah Jackson is the team's three-point threat, pacing the team in three-pointers (4) and three-point percentage (30.8%).
 
On the glass, Daveona Hatchell grabs 6.8 rpg, followed by Witt's 6.3 rpg.
 
As a whole, West Virginia Wesleyan averages 53.5 ppg on 35.3% shooting from the floor, 17.1% shooting from three and 53.1% shooting from the free throw line. The Bobcats add 38.3 rpg (+3.3 margin), 6.5 apg, 6.5 spg and 2.5 bpg.
