Back to conference play for NDC women's basketball

This Week: The Notre Dame College women's basketball team will host Glenville State University on Wednesday Nov. 30 at 5:30 p.m., before traveling to Concord University on Saturday Dec. 3 for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
 
Records: NDC begins the week at 2-4, including 1-1 inside the Mountain East Conference. GSU is 3-1 (1-1 MEC), while CU is 1-4 (0-2 MEC).
 
Coaches Corner: Imani Gordon is in her second season as the head coach of Notre Dame College, holding a career record of 17-18. Kim Stephens begins her seventh season with the Glenville State women's basketball program, after winning the national championship last season. Lastly, Tesla Southcott is in her first season at the helm of the Concord women's basketball team.
 
Rankings: According to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), Glenville State is currently ranked No. 4 in the country, as the Pioneers are also receiving four first-place votes.
 
Series History: The Falcons are 2-19 all-time when facing the Pioneers, dating back to their first meeting in 2013-14 and including GSU's three wins last season. NDC is 15-3 all-time when playing CU, dating back to their first meeting in 2013-14 and including the Falcons going 2-1 against the Mountain Lions last year.
 
Noting the Falcons: Last week, Notre Dame split their pair of contests, beginning with a 78-68 defeat at West Liberty. Sophomore Karli Anker paced the squad with a team-high and career-high 15 points on the night. On Saturday, the Falcons bounced back with a 52-49 win at Ursuline College. NDC used a pivotal 12-0 third quarter run to erase a double-digit deficit on the road. Senior Marina Adachi led the team with a game-high and season-high 21 points on 5-8 shooting from three.
 
On the year, redshirt sophomore Alana Ellis leads the NDC Falcons with 16.6 points per game. She currently ranks 10th in the MEC in scoring. Ellis also leads the team in field goals made (33), field goals attempted (91) and three-pointers attempted (32).
 
Adachi is next with 9.8 ppg, as she leads the team in three-pointers made (11), three-point percentage (45.8%) and free throw percentage (100%, 10-10). Moreover, Adachi ranks second on the squad in field goals made (19) and field goals attempted (53).
 
Freshman Noel Weathers is the team's leading rebounder at 6.2 rebounds per game.
 
Freshman Cencere McDaniel and sophomore Lilee Carlson post a team-high 11 assists each, while Anker has swiped a team leading 13 steals.
 
As a team, Notre Dame College averages 61.3 ppg on 37.7% shooting from the floor, 31.0% shooting from three-point land and 67.6% shooting from the free throw line. The Falcons grab 31.5 rebounds per game, dish out 10.5 assists per game, generate 11.8 steals per game and 2.8 blocks per game.
 
Noting the Pioneers: Last week, Glenville State dropped their first contest since the 2022 MEC Championship Game. On Tuesday, the Pioneers fell 79-70 on the road to Charleston, the same team who tallied GSU's only loss last season. Hya Haywood led a balanced scoring attack for GSU on Tuesday with a team-high 12 points.
 
The Glenville State offense is ultra-balanced this season, led by Breanna Campbell's 13.0 ppg, followed by Haywood with 12.3 ppg and Mickayla Perdue with 11.3 ppg.
 
Campbell is the team's leader in field goals made (18), field goals attempted (39), free throws made (15) and free throws attempted (28), while Perdue paces the squad in three-point field goals made (9) and three-point percentage (36.0%). Haywood is the team's top facilitator with 13 assists and 14 steals on the year.
 
A balanced offensive attack transitions into the rebounding department as Campbell grabs a team-high 5.0 rpg. She is joined by three other Pioneers who have north of 4.0 rpg this season.
 
As a whole, Glenville State averages 83.5 ppg on 41.0% shooting from the field, 29.3% shooting from three and 64.8% shooting from the charity stripe. The Pioneers add 35.3 rebounds per game, 14.3 assists per game, 15.0 steals per game and 1.3 blocks per game. Stacking up against the national competition, GSU ranks second in the country in turnovers forced (28.7), tied for third in turnover margin (11.0), tied for fourth in steals per game, tied for eighth in three-pointers per game (10.0) and tied for 12th in scoring offense.
 
Noting the Mountain Lions: Last week, Concord fell during their only contest, 95-70 at West Virginia State. Maggie Guynn logged a game-high 17 points in the loss.
 
The aforementioned Guynn leads the Mountain Lions on offense this season with a team-best 11.6 ppg. She logs team-highs in field goals attempted (57), three-point field goals made (8), three-point field goals attempted (23), three-point field goal percentage (34.8%), free throws made (16) and free throws attempted (23).
 
Guynn is joined by Abbie Smith as the only other Mountain Lion to score in double figures (10.4 ppg). Smith is the team's leader in field goals made (20), field goal percentage (52.6%) and rebounds per game (7.2).
 
Jaisah Smith joins the action at 9.6 ppg, while notching team-highs in assists (15), free throws made (19) and free throw percentage (95.0%).
 
As a group, Concord flashes 62.2 ppg on 34.8% shooting from the floor, 28.2% shooting from three and 72.6% shooting from the free throw line. The Mountain Lions tally 38.6 rebounds per game, 10.8 assists per game, 8.4 steals per game and 1.0 block per game.
