Notre Dame wrestling gets back to competition at Glenville State Duals, Intercollegiate Open

Over the past two weekends, Notre Dame College has gotten back on the mat to start the 2022-23 season. At the Glenville State Duals on Nov. 5, Matthew Kaufmann won all five of his matchups as NDC went 2-3 on the day. The Falcons competed at the Bob Del Rosa Ohio Intercollegiate Open, hosted by Case Western Reserve University on Nov. 13, where two Falcons placed in the top six.

At the duals down in Glenville, W.Va., NDC faced three teams from the Mountain East Conference. The Falcons defeated Davis & Elkins (33-17) and Emory & Henry College (36-24). NDC fell to Fairmont State, Glenville State and Seton Hill.

Individually, Matthew Kaufmann (149 lbs.) pinned Seton Hill's Dominic Williams, Emory & Henry's Collin Davidson and Fairmont State's Addison Courtney. He defeated Glenville's Cam Barr via tech fall (16-0) and D&E's Corbin Saul by decision (11-4). Cale Hoskinson also had a solid day at 165, winning all four of the matchups that he was penciled into. He pinned Seton Hill's Kane Kettering, Emory & Henry's Konor Gray and Davis & Elkins' Bradden Galassi. Hoskinson defeated Glenville State's Guy DeLeonardis with an 8-6 decision.

At the Intercollegiate Open, Marvelous Rutledge (197) defeated Nicholas Barrickman (Davis & Elkins) with a 17-1 tech fall in the second round. After losing in the semifinals, he turned it back on in the consolation bracket. Rutledge defeated Tiffin's Evan Straub (9-7 decision) and took fourth place on the day.

Rodney Winston took fifth place in the 174 lbs. bracket. He moved through the day receiving a few bye rounds and a forfeit. He did defeat Newberry's Dayton Fields in sudden victory.

Kaufmann got past Cleveland State's Joe Caprella in the 149 lbs. bracket and then took care of Ashland's Luke Wymer. Both of those wins were decisions, separated by one point. Hoskinson advanced out of round one on a forfeit, but then defeated Newberry's Patrick Wunderlich by decision (3-0). In the consolation bracket, he would win again, with a pin.

Michael Prikryl III (133), Manuel Santos (184) and No. 10 La'Ron Parks (285) all picked up a win last weekend.

The Falcons will head to King University in Briston, Tenn., for the King Open, on Nov. 19.
