Swimming & Diving travels to Salem University this week

This Week: The Notre Dame College swimming and diving team will get back in the pool when they travel to Salem University on Friday Oct. 21 at 5 p.m.

Coaches Corner: Notre Dame is led by head coach Stephanie Mulvin, in her sixth season at the helm of the Falcon swimming and diving program. Mulvin has three MEC Championship trophies under her belt, by coaching the men's side to three straight conference crowns (2020-2022). Rick Johnson is the head swimming and diving coach of Salem University.

Rankings: Neither of these teams are ranked according to the CSCAA Poll.

Noting the Falcons: Notre Dame is coming off their first meet of the season, which took place on Saturday, as the Falcons finished third against Oberlin and Ashland. The NDC men tallied 25 points, while the women's side totaled 18.

In dual meets last season, the NDC men finished with a record of 4-3, as the NDC women held a record of 3-4. In addition, the Falcons hosted the Tigers last year at Mellen Pool. Both Falcon teams reigned victorious on the day by scores of 149-113 for the men and 160-101 for the women.

Fresh of the first MEC Women's Swimmer of the Week award this season, senior Hannah Berlin is primed for another big weekend. After claiming a pair of first, second and third place finishes on Saturday, the former MEC Women's Swimmer of the Year will lead the Falcons against the Tigers. Berlin reigned victorious in the 500 yard freestyle (5:27.21) and 400 yard free relay (3:51.72).

Teammate Ashton Smith leads the men's side and also claimed a pair of first-place finishes a week ago. The former MEC Men's Swimmer of the Year took home victories in the 50 yard freestyle (22.19) and 200 yard free relays (21.12 split).

Noting the Tigers: Last weekend, Salem competed at the West Virginia State games. The Tigers saw competition across all three NCAA divisions, including Marshall, West Virginia University, WVU Tech, Fairmont State, Davis & Elkins, Wheeling and Bethany.

The Salem women's team placed third during the two-day event, behind only Division I Marshall and WVU. On the men's side, the Tigers placed fourth after WVU, WVU Tech and D&E.
