This Week:Â Notre Dame College wrestling travels to West Liberty University on Jan. 29 for the Mountain East Conference Championships. The action will begin at 10 a.m.

Records:Â Notre Dame enters the conference tournament with a 1-3 record in dual competition, while going 1-2 against MEC teams. They have competed in five open tournaments.

Coaches Corner: Sonny Marchette is in his third season as the head coach of the Notre Dame wrestling program. He has guided the Falcons to third place in the past two appearances at the MEC Championships.
Rankings:Â In the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division II top 25 poll, the MEC is represented in the top five and have a couple teams receiving votes. West Liberty is No. 4 in the country with 71 total points and six individuals ranked. Alderson Broaddus is receiving seven votes and Davis & Elkins is receiving two votes.

Noting the Falcons: Notre Dame has seen plenty of MEC competition over the past two weeks. They defeated Wheeling, 44-6, in a dual meet on Jan. 13. They also battled West Liberty and Glenville State in a home tri-match on Jan. 20. NDC has three wrestlers who will compete tomorrow and took home All-MEC awards at the tournament last season.Â
Logan Hall won his weight class at 174 lbs. in 2021. This season he holds a record of 7-5 and grabbed third place at the Ohio Intercollegiate Open, while wrestling at 184.
Matthew Kaufmann earned All-MEC Third Team after grabbing third place at the championships last season at 133. He was also named MEC Freshman of the Year. This season, he is 11-9 and grabbed second place at the Ohio Intercollegiate Open at 141 lbs.
Michael Viramontes is now the Falcons heavyweight, but took third place at the 2021 MEC Tournament, wrestling at 197. This season, he holds a record of 8-5 and was the champion of the Storm Open. He also pinned Glenville State's Devin Gauldin at the tri-match.
