ALLIANCE, Ohio – Notre Dame College wrestling went to the University of Mount Union on Sunday and competed in the Purple Raider Open.
Jake Arnold,
Matthew Kaufmann,
Rodney Winston Jr. and
La'Ron Parks all placed in their weight brackets.
At 125 lbs., Arnold's day was highlighted with a pin (4:14) of Michigan State's Jeremy Sarter. The Falcons' sophomore would take eighth place. Winston grabbed seventh place at 165.
Kaufmann earned four wins on the day, wrestling at 149. He started the day with a pin of Cleveland State's Ryan Granger and then defeated Edinboro's Jacob Pail by decision (8-2). After another victory by fall against Gustavo Delima (Grand Valley State), Kaufmann came up short in the semifinals against Michigan's Chance Lamer. He would grab fifth place.
The Falcons' heavyweight, Parks, also won his first two bouts. He pinned Rio Grand's Michael Peneski and defeated Michigan's Austin Jordan with a 9-2 decision in quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Parks was unable to get past Ohio State's Hogan Swenski. Parks took fifth place.
NDC comes back home this week for a tri-match against West Liberty University and Glenville State College on Jan. 20. The competition will begin at 4 p.m.
