MEC Women's Lacrosse Championship Game Preview

Mountain East Conference Championship: Notre Dame battles Frostburg State University, today at 3 p.m., on Mueller Field. Both teams are looking to secure their first MEC Tournament Championship.

Records: Notre Dame currently has an overall record of 11-3 and finished the regular season with a 9-1 mark in MEC play. Frostburg State has a record of 10-4 and went 8-2 against MEC opponents.

Coaches Corner: Ben Morhac is in his second season as head coach of the Falcons. He has a record of 13-6 (9-1 MEC) and was named 2021 MEC Coach of the Year. Taylor Sindall is in her first season as head coach of Frostburg State.

Series History: The Falcons and Bobcats went head-to-head for the first time this season. NDC won the first matchup on March 27 by a score of 21-15. On April 11, FSU got past the Falcons with a 20-9 victory.

Noting the Falcons: Notre Dame took the MEC regular season title and is the top seed in the tournament. The last time the program won 11 games was 2010. The Falcons currently have a record of 6-1 at home. They had 10 players named to the All-MEC Teams, including five on the All-MEC First Team. Throughout NCAA Division II, NDC ranks 14th in draw controls per game at 15.36 and 18th in caused turnovers per game at 10.93. Mackenzie Levine is third nationally in total saves (145), 17th in save percentage (.474) and 20th in saves per game (10.36). Amanda Paino is 19th in Division II with 43 goals. Alicyn Loberg is first in the conference with 4.57 draw controls per game, Megan Dano is second in the MEC with 1.57 assists per game and Katie Wendell ranks second in the MEC with 1.85 caused turnovers per game.

Noting the Bobcats: Frostburg State had seven players named to an All-MEC Team, including four on the First Team. FSU ranks first in the MEC in goals per game (17.07), assists per game (7.29), groundballs per game (22.14), points per game (24.36) and caused turnovers per game (11.14). Summer Cavey leads the conference with 1.71 assists per game and Mckenna Shay is first in goals against average, allowing just 8.38 per game.
