SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Notre Dame College and Frostburg State University were locked in a close battle in the first half, tied at seven at halftime. Frostburg State was able to grab a lead early in the second half and won the game, 20-9.
In the first 30 minutes of the game, the two teams traded goals nearly the entire half. FSU's Summer Cavey scored first goal of the half at the 27:23-mark, but NDC tied the game when sophomore
Alicyn Loberg scored with 26:06 to go.
Frostburg State jumped ahead, then the Falcons tied the game at two after junior
Ebony Reddick scored. FSU put two more goals on the board, but the Falcons responded with a 3-0 run and took a 5-4 lead with 12:11 on the clock. Reddick scored a free position shot, sophomore
Kendal Johnson scored and then graduate student
Amanda Paino gave the Falcons the lead, with junior
Megan Dano credited with the assist.
Notre Dame grabbed a 6-5 advantage when
Ebony Reddick scored her third goal of the first half. But, Frostburg State scored twice to take a 7-6 lead.
The rollercoaster continued as Reddick scored her fourth goal of the half with 10-seconds remaining, tying the game at seven.
The goalkeepers did a great job on both sides, as well. The two teams combined for 28 shots on goal and Frostburg's Whitney Crosby had eight saves and the Falcons' McKenzie Levine saved six shots.
Notre Dame took 21 shots to Frostburg State's 15 in the first stanza. The Falcons also won 11 of the 15 draw controls.
The Bobcats won the first four draw controls of the second half and scored the first four goals. FSU's lead would increase to seven, 14-7, before the Falcons scored again. Freshman
Charlotte Vari won the draw control and junior
Taylor Skomp scored, with the assist credited to Loberg.
Loberg would score again with 10:12 on the clock, making the score 15-9, in favor of the Bobcats.
Frostburg State grabbed 11 of the 15 draw controls in the second half.
Reddick led the Falcons with four goals and was tied for the team lead with five draw controls. She also caused three turnovers. Loberg added two goals and one assist. Paino had one goal and five draw controls. Sophomore
Nia Griffith added a season-high four caused turnovers and five groundballs.
Notre Dame will start their three-game road trip on April 14, when they play West Virginia Wesleyan College. The game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
