Volleyball wraps up regular season against Alderson Broaddus

PHILIPPI, W.Va. – In the final regular season match of the season, Notre Dame College fell to Alderson Broaddus University, 3-1, on Friday evening.

NDC got off to a good start in the first set, pulling ahead 8-4. But a 10-1 run by Alderson Broaddus put the Battlers in front, 14-9. The Falcons did pull back within one point, four times, but could not tie the game. ABU won the first set, 25-21.

The Battlers grabbed the early lead in the second set, leading 11-7. The Falcons slowly cut into the deficit and sophomore Kaye Dregalla, who had three kills in the first set, finished two kills and an ace by junior Katie Richardson tied the set at 14. Sophomores Sarah DeGeorge and Carli Derda had back-to-back kills to give Notre Dame a 17-16 lead, their first lead since the beginning of the set.

Trailing 22-19, Alderson Broaddus had a response with four kills and a 4-1 run to tie the score at 23. NDC's DeGeorge had a kill and freshman Carly Emerson gave Notre Dame a 26-24 win with an ace.

With the match tied at one, ABU led through the early part of the third set. Notre Dame put four consecutive points on the board to grab a 16-15 advantage. The Falcons would, later, take another lead, 20-19. But, the Battlers closed the set on a 6-1 run to win, 25-21.

ABU led the entire the fourth set, aside from one tie, and won by a score of 25-18.

Dregalla led the team with 15 kills and freshman Kelsie Palmer had 13. Freshman McKenzie Andrix set another career-high with 26 assists on the night. Richardson finished with 14 assists and 13 digs. Junior Amelia Kaeberlein totaled 17 digs.

The Mountain East Conference Tournament begins March 9 and the Falcons are the four seed in the North Division. They will travel to Fairmont State University, on Tuesday, at 7 p.m.
