Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Notre Dame scores 98 points in win over Davis & Elkins

ELKINS, W.Va. – Notre Dame College scored a season-high in points and grabbed their second consecutive win, as they defeated Davis & Elkins College by a score of 98-91, on Monday.

NDC held the lead for much of the first 12 minutes of the game, but did not stretch the lead over eight points.

Beginning at the 7:43-mark and spanning over nearly six minutes, the Falcons went on a 15-4 run. They led by 14 points, 44-30, with 1:55 remaining before halftime. At one point during the run, Notre Dame scored 10 consecutive second-chance points on layups that followed offensive rebounds.

The Falcons led, 48-41, at halftime. As a team, NDC grabbed eight offensive rebounds and were outrebounding D&E, 28-17, over the first 20 minutes. Junior Jordan Roland had 15 points, on 5-of-9 shooting, in the first half.

A steal by Roland led to a dunk by junior Michael Sampson with 18:03 to go in the second half and that pushed the NDC lead to nine points, 56-47.

Davis & Elkins immediately responded with a 12-2 run. Sam Rolle IV knocked down three free throws to give the Senators their first lead of the second half, 59-58.

The two teams were shooting very well to start the second half. With 12:13 on the clock, NDC was shooting 50-percent (6-for-12) while D&E was shooting 70-percent (7-for-10).

Over the next two minutes, the game was tied twice with three lead changes. But the Falcons grabbed the lead back when freshman Jevontae Jones passed to freshman Jordan Burton, who hit a three pointer. Then Sampson blocked a shot on one end and hit a shot on the other end.

The Senators tied the game at 70 with just under 10 minutes to play, but the Falcons would take the lead for the rest of the game after freshman John Godinez connected on a clutch three pointer.

"I was proud of our togetherness, particularly down the stretch," head coach Mark Richmond said. "It feels good to close out a game on the road. We have to continue to learn and keep growing but we have really good kids who want to learn."

Roland scored a season-high 28 points along with a season-high four three pointers. He also dished out five assists. Sampson also had a season-high in both points (19) and rebounds (15). Burton added 18 points and Godinez knocked down all three 3-pointers he took, finishing with 11 points.

Notre Dame set season-highs in points, field goals made (35), rebounds (45), assists (17) and steals (10). The team shot 52-percent, overall, and 55-percent from three.

The Falcons hit the road, again, on Wednesday when they visit Alderson Broaddus University. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
