SOUTH EUCLID, OH – The Notre Dame College swimming & diving team wrapped up their first conference meet of the young season on Friday with a win over Davis & Elkins College. The women's side bested the Senators 126-76 while the men won 126.5 to 78.5.
The Falcons started out the meet by flying to wins in both 200-yard medley relays.
Emily Thomas,
Jaybreona Foster,
Alexis Torosian and
Alaina Wittum swam a 1:57.45 to win the first event of the meet. The men's side followed suit with a winning time of 1:39.14 from Abraham Hagedorn,
Austin Arnold,
Garrett Warren and
Ashton Smith.
Courtney Ledbetter (26.15) and Wittum (26.26) swam one-two in the 50-yard free as just .11 seconds separated the two Falcons.
Roan Kelleher snagged nine points and 50-yard free win at a time of 22.26. Hagedorn and D&E's Jiwh Santos tied for second place at 22.65 and split 3.5 points each.
Abrielle Junge and
Roan Kelleher began a stretch of four straight events won for the Falcons by claiming the women's and men's 100-yard free with times of 56.33 and 50.30 respectively. Thomas and Hagedorn followed up the 100 free wins with 100-yard backstroke victories for the women and men at times of 1:02.04 and 53.26.
NDC rounded out the meet with a sweep of the final two events, the 200-yard free relay.
Hannah Berlin, Ledbetter, Thomas and Junge grabbed 11 points at a first-place time of 1:46.12. Smith, Lorcan Kelleher, Jake Dorn and
Roan Kelleher got the job done on the men's side in a time of 1:29.28.
Less than 18 hours later on Saturday, the NDC's women's team hosted Hillsdale College in Mellen Pool for an unscored exhibition meet alongside the NDC men's team, who participated in a Blue vs. White intra-squad meet.
On the men's side in the 200-yard free,
Daniel Alvarez edged out Hagedorn 1:54.76 to 1:54.98. In the 50-yard free, Smith won the event with a 22.01 over
Roan Kelleher's 22.36.
Cam Fisher stepped up and won the 200-yard IM and 200-yard butterfly in back-to-back men's events over his fellow teammates. Fisher won the IM at a time of 2:09.37 and the fly at a time of 2:10.20.
Berlin won the lone event for the women's team on the afternoon as Hillsdale posed stiff competition. Berlin blew away the competition in the 500-yard free with a time of 5:27.73, a whole 16 seconds faster than Stefanie Walker of Hillsdale who came in second.
The Notre Dame College swimming & diving team will be back in action on Thursday Nov. 18 – Nov. 20 when the Falcons travel to Oberlin College for the Mid-Season Invite.
