This week: The Notre Dame College swimming & diving team will host Davis & Elkins College on Friday Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. in Mellen Pool. The dual meet against the Senators marks the first GMAC-MEC conference meet of the 2021-22 season for the Falcons. In addition, in a quick turnaround to Saturday Nov. 6 at 1 p.m. NDC will host Hillsdale College and Ursuline College in another GMAC-MEC conference meet. The Notre Dame College men's team will partake in a Blue vs. White intra-squad meet on Saturday, due to Hillsdale and Ursuline lacking a men's swim program.
Â
Coaches Corner: Notre Dame is led by
Stephanie Gyurke who is in her fifth season with the Falcon swimming and diving program. Gyurke has two MEC Championship trophies under her belt, by coaching the men's side to back-to-back conference crowns in 2020 and 2021. Nicole Rose in her seventh season with the Davis & Elkins swim program. Kurt Kirner is in his 15
th season with Hillsdale College. Ursuline College is led by Matt Cook.
Â
Rankings: None of these teams are ranked in the CSCAA preseason poll.
Â
Noting the Falcons: Notre Dame will compete in their fourth and fifth meets of the season this weekend. The last outing for NDC was a win over Salem University on Oct. 23 and a narrow loss to the College of Wooster on Oct. 23 in back-to-back dual meets for the Falcons. Gyurke is pleased with where the Falcons are thus far, as their performance against the Fighting Scots was closer than ever before. At 1-1 on the season, Notre Dame will look to continue their early season success in another weekend of back to back meets, this time against conference opponents.
Â
Noting the Senators: Davis & Elkins College gets into the pool for the fourth time this season, but with a 1-0 record, after most recently beating Frostburg State 139-123 on Oct. 23. In addition, D&E has also swam in the GMAC/MEC Relays where they placed second of six teams and the West Virginia State Games when they placed fifth of seven teams.
Â
Noting the Chargers: Hillsdale's women's swimming & diving team is currently undefeated after their most recent win at home against Albion College (134-107). Hillsdale has also swim against Hope College and Ohio Northern in a tri-meet, at the Malone Relays, and at Indiana Wesleyan.
Â
Noting the Arrows: Ursuline College women's swim team is currently 0-1 with their lone meet coming against Baldwin Wallace University over the span of two days (Oct. 22 and 23) when the Arrows lost 262-27 in Berea, OH. Ursuline's swim team has just five swimmers on the roster.
