CLEVELAND, OH – The Notre Dame College swimming and diving program traveled a short way down the road to Cleveland State University on this past Saturday to partake in the 2021 Viking Relay Challenge against the host CSU and also the College of Wooster. The meet featured only relay style races of several different variations. Upon the conclusion, both the NDC men's (70 points) and women's (66 points) side finished in third place on the afternoon. The College of Wooster reigned supreme on the women's side with 92 points to CSU's 90. On the men's side, Cleveland State pushed out to a big lead and totaled 112 points to Wooster's 74. (

The first Falcons in the water were
Alaina Wittum,
Jaybreona Foster,
Hannah Berlin and
Brooke Dobrzanski in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:57.60. On the men's side in the same event,
Abram Hagedorn,
Austin Arnold,
Jacob Dorn and
Roan Kelleher swimming a 1:40.78, besting the Fighting Scots relay team by 1.22 seconds.
The 200 Back Relay saw NDC narrowly beat Wooster by a time of 1:41.23 compared to the Fighting Scots 1:42.07. Dorn,
Cooper Hanson, David Parris and Hagedorn are responsible for the impressive swim that finished behind only the division one hosts, CSU.
The Falcons featured Berlin,
Courtney Ledbetter,
Melissa Orvin and
Alexis Torosian in the 200 Fly Relay that went sub two minutes at 1:58.09, less than three seconds behind Wooster.
In the 200 Free Relay, the quartet of Hagedorn, Dorn, Lorcan Keller and Kelleher again bested Wooster with a time of 1:29.72. Kelleher anchored the relay with a 22.15 to edge out the Fighting Scots by .57 seconds. In addition, the women's squad of Dobrzanski,
Abrielle Junge, Wittum and Torosian swam a 1:48.63 in the same event.
The 2021 Viking Relay Challenge was a tune up for head coach
Stephanie Gyurke's Falcons, a meet that allowed the swimmers to shake off the rust from the offseason and gauge where they stand with their respective times.
After a solid outing at CSU, Notre Dame College swimming and diving will be back in action when they host Salem University on Friday, Oct. 22 at 5 p.m. in Mellen Pool. The following day on Saturday Oct. 23, the Falcons will welcome the College of Wooster and Hiram College to town with a 1 p.m. start time.
