This week: The Notre Dame College swimming and diving program will be back in action for a busy weekend when they welcome Salem University to Mellen Pool for a dual meet on Friday Oct. 22 at 5 p.m. It will be a quick turnaround to Saturday Oct. 23 at 1 p.m. when the College of Wooster makes its way to Mellen Pool for another dual meet.
Â
Coaches Corner: Notre Dame is led by
Stephanie Gyurke who is in her fifth season with the Falcon swimming and diving program. Gyurke has two MEC Championship trophies under her belt, by coaching the men's side to back-to-back conference crowns in 2020 and 2021. Rick Johnson is at the helm of the Salem swimming and diving team. The College of Wooster is led by head coach Rob Harrington who is in his 19
th year with the Fighting Scots.
Â
Rankings: The preseason CSCAA top 25 rankings have not yet been released.
Â
Noting the Falcons: Notre Dame saw their first action of 2021 back on Oct. 2 when they traveled down the road to Cleveland State University to compete in the Viking Relay Challenge against CSU and the College of Wooster. The Falcons finished in third place on both the men's and women's side, but more importantly, the meet was a tune-up that allowed Gyurke and the Falcons to gauge where their team stands to begin the new season.
Â
Noting the Tigers: Salem University has seen the water twice this year, back on the weekend of Oct. 2 for the Kingsport Invitational and the following weekend Oct. 8, for State Games in Morgantown, WV.
Â
Noting the Fighting Scots: The College of Wooster, like NDC, has only been in the pool once this year when back on Oct. 2 the Fighting Scots took part in the Viking Relay Challenge. Their men's side placed second, while their women's side finished first on that Saturday Oct. 2.
