ALLIANCE, Ohio – The University of Mount Union hosted the Purple Raider Open on January 19. No. 3 Notre Dame College sent multiple wrestlers to compete and six placed in the top-6.
Logan Hall and
Anthony Marra led the Falcons, placing second and third, respectively.
At 184 lbs., Hall wrestled unattached. He received a bye in round one before facing NCAA Division I competition. Hall won by decision over Brad Mendoza (Ohio) and Tyler Bates (Kent State) in the next two rounds. He then advanced to the 1st Place Match where Carson Brewer (Ohio) narrowly won with a 4-1 decision, giving Hall a second-place finish.
Marra had a solid day, also at 184. He pinned Trevor Blue (Purdue) in the second round and later pinned Brad Mendoza (Ohio) in the consolation semi-final round. After winning via fall against Mendoza, Marra entered the third-place match and defeated Cam Page (Gannon) by decision (7-2) to grab third place.
Jordon Tague went 4-2 in the 157 lbs. weight bracket, including a win over Tyler Griffiths (Edinboro) in the Fifth Place Match.
Darese Sparkman won two matchups and took sixth place at 149,
Jack Rogan won three times and grabbed sixth at 165 and
Wennds Myrtil took sixth at 197.
Notre Dame wrestles at home on January 26, when they take on No. 8 Ashland University. The dual is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
