Lacrosse finishes the regular season this weekend

This Week: Notre Dame College lacrosse hits the road for two important games to close out the regular season. They will play the University of Charleston on April 25, at 3 p.m. On April 28, the Falcons will take on the University of Virginia's College at Wise, at 11 a.m.

Records: Notre Dame is currently 7-9 on the season and 3-5 in the MEC. Charleston holds a record of 4-10 and 2-6 in conference play. UVa-Wise is 9-6 (7-1 MEC).

Coaches Corner: Pam Jenkins is now in her third season as the head coach at NDC with an overall record of 12-30. Elizabeth Gainer is in her third season as coach of UC and has a 16-30 (5-13 MEC) record. Meghan Dennehy leads the Virginia-Wise program and is in her fifth season as head coach.

Rankings: None of these teams are ranked in the IWLCA Coaches Poll.

Series History: Notre Dame is 2-2 versus the University of Charleston, since 2016. Since 2015, the Falcons have gone 0-5 against UVa-Wise.

Noting the Falcons: Notre Dame played just one game last week, falling to Wheeling Jesuit by a score of 22-16. Going into this weekend, the Falcons are in the Mountain East Conference Tournament and would be the fourth seed. It would be the program's first conference tournament appearance as a member of the MEC. Danyelle Hardy is having an incredible season so far and now finds herself ranked in the top-10 in a few categories for a single season in NDC history. She is now ranked sixth in points (61) and is tied for 10th in goals (45). Hardy ranks fifth in the MEC with 45 goals scored and has also assisted on 16 goals. Four Falcons have scored 30, or more, goals and the last time that happened in a season was 2013. Taylor Henderson has totaled 34 goals and 10 assists, along with 63 draw controls. Selena Carter leads the team with 14 free position goals, while recording 31 total goals. She leads the conference with one free position goal per game and is tied for first with three game-winning goals. Abigail Plewes is third in the MEC with 1.5 caused turnovers per contest while Katie Wendell is fifth with 1.44 per game.

Noting the Golden Eagles: Charleston snapped their four game losing slide with a 14-11 win over West Virginia Wesleyan College. UC has gone 2-8 over their last 10 games, with both of the wins coming against WVWC. Both Aryanna Jones and Samantha Youngman have two game winning goals. Emma Renda ranks second in the conference by scoring 0.93 free position goals per game while Youngman scores 0.71 free position goals per game, which is fifth. Alexis Stuck finds herself fourth with 2.43 ground balls per game. Kyra Tye has been strong in goal, playing every game. She records 12.64 saves per game which is first in the MEC and has a 49-percent save percentage, which is second in the conference.

Noting the Cavaliers: UVa-Wise is at the top of the MEC standings with two games remaining. The Cavaliers were undefeated through the first seven games of conference play before losing to Shepherd by two goals. Virginia-Wise scored a goal with about nine minutes to go, tying that game at 12. Shepherd then scored three straight goals which set them up for the upset. In the MEC, UVa-Wise ranks first in goals per game (15.20), assists per game (7.40), points per game (22.60) and shot percentage (.453). McKayla Grasham records 2.93 goals per game, which is fourth in the MEC. Sydney Steinberg and Jessie French have 1.87 assists per game, which is good for third. French is tied for first with three game winning goals. Goalkeeper Elsa Girardo is second in the conference, allowing just 11.34 goals per game.
