Lacrosse gears up for two games in Colorado

Upcoming Games: Notre Dame College women's lacrosse travels to Colorado to play Adams State University on March 9, at 3 p.m. and Colorado State University-Pueblo on March 11, at 4 p.m.

Records: Notre Dame won their first game of the 2019 season and sit at 1-0. Adams State is currently 0-2 and Colorado State-Pueblo is 1-2.

Coaches Corner: Pam Jenkins is now in her third season as the head coach at NDC with an overall record of 6-21. Monica Plut is in her first season as head coach of Adams State. Monica Potter was hired as the first Colorado State-Pueblo women's lacrosse coach in 2013 and is now in her fifth season. She has a record of 21-43.

Rankings: None of these teams are ranked in the IWLCA Coaches Poll.

Series History: This is the first meeting between these teams.

Noting the Falcons: In their lone game of the season, Notre Dame got off to a good start, beating Ashland University, 18-11. For their performances, Leslie Diaz and McKenzie Shean won Mountain East Conference Offensive Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively. Diaz led the team with six goals, and had four in the first half. She also had the most points (7) and draw controls (4) for Notre Dame. The freshman was tied for the team lead in caused turnovers (2) and had the second most ground balls (6). Shean started her second career game at goalie and had 10 saves, earning the win. Selena Carter added four goals and led the team with two assists. Katie Wendell scored the first goal of the season and finished with two. Abigail Plewes had five ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Noting the Grizzlies: Adams State has been held to one goal in each of their first two games of the season. They lost by a score of 24-1 to the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs and then fell to Concordia-St. Paul, 25-1. So far this season, they have turned the ball over nearly twice as many times as their opponent (47-24) and their opponents have taken 85 more shots (95-10). Madison Gerchow and Savannah Penland have scored the two goals this season. Penland has taken eight of the team's 10 shots and Gerchow has won nine draw controls.
 
Noting the Thunder Wolves: Colorado State-Pueblo has played a tough schedule in 2019. They took on two ranked teams, beginning with No. 22 Colorado Mesa, and lost 15-8. They then played No. 8 Regis University and lost 15-5. On March 7, they beat Concordia-St. Paul, 11-10. The Thunder Wolves have a better shots on goal percentage than their opponents (.839-.793). Elyse Ingram leads the team with six goals, while Allison Wurscher has totaled three assists, which leads the team. Taylor Christensen had four goals in their lone win, and tops the team with seven caused turnovers. Anna Marie Horton has started all three games in goal and she has recorded 29 saves while allowing 40 goals. She is tied for the team lead with eight ground balls.
