Lacrosse falls to Walsh

NORTH CANTON, Ohio – Early in the first half, Notre Dame College came back to tie the game at two, but Walsh University would score 15 first half goals and went on to defeat the Falcons, 21-6, on Thursday afternoon.

Jenny Spragg scored the first two goals of the game for Walsh, in the first five minutes of the game. But, after a turnover, sophomore Bridie Schmalz picked the ball up and went down the field to score NDC's first goal, with 24:24 to go in the first half.

One minute later, playing a man-up after Walsh was issued a yellow card, Notre Dame sophomore Selena Carter put the ball in the net to tie the contest at two.

WU then scored five times in a row, before the Falcons won a draw control and freshman Danyelle Hardy scored the Falcons third goal of the game. Then, with 9:50 remaining in the half, Carter scored her second goal, making the score, 11-4. The Cavaliers led at halftime by a score of 15-4.

Another yellow card was issued to Walsh less than two minutes into the second half. Playing with a man-up, freshman Leslie Diaz was fouled and then connected on her free position shot for the Falcons. Later in the game, Carter scored her third goal of the game, another free position attempt, making the score 19-6, in favor of the Cavaliers.

Senior Taylor Henderson won four draw controls and Schmalz added two caused turnovers. Goalie McKenzie Shean saved six shots.

For Walsh, Hannah McFeeters led the team with four goals and four draw controls. She also caused two turnovers and scooped up five ground balls. Ellen Lawrence led the team with five points (two goals and three assists).

The Falcons will travel to play Davis & Elkins College on March 17. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
