Lacrosse shuts out Adams State in second half, wins by 15

ALAMOSA, Colo. – Notre Dame College women's lacrosse has started their season 2-0 for the first time since the 2013 season. After leading Adams State University by seven points at halftime, NDC's defense did not allow a second half goal in a 19-4 win, on Saturday afternoon.

The 37 points that the Falcons have scored in back-to-back games to start this season is the most since the end of the 2014 season, when they scored 46 in the final two games.

The Falcons took advantage of mistakes right off the bat, scoring their first seven goals on possessions immediately following turnovers by the Grizzlies. They led 7-2 at the ten minute mark. Freshman Danyelle Hardy scored three goals during that run.

At halftime, Notre Dame led 11-4. Sophomore Selena Carter had four goals for the Falcons, while freshman Leslie Diaz added three goals and one assist.

Notre Dame opened up the second half with goals by sophomore Bridie Schmalz, freshman Katie Wendell and Diaz within the first five minutes of the half. Later, Hardy scored back-to-back goals in about a 30-second span from the 5:11-mark to the 4:39-mark in the second half.

Hardy led the team with five goals, while Diaz led the team with six points (four goals, two assists). Wendell added three caused turnovers and four ground balls and freshman Victoria Eiland won six draw controls. NDC took 27 more shots than the Grizzlies. McKenzie Shean saved seven shots in goal.

For Adams State, four players had one goal. Madison Gerchow had one of the goals and won six draw controls, but also turned the ball over eight times. Goalie Louisa Sanchez recorded 16 saves in a losing effort.

The Falcons will play Colorado State University-Pueblo on March 11. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
