This Week: Notre Dame College hosts its first game of the season, welcoming Glenville State on Wednesday, December 4, at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, December 7, the Falcons travel to Concord.
Records: The Falcons are now 6-0 (2-0 MEC) after winning their first two MEC games at Wheeling and West Liberty last week. Glenville State is 3-3 (1-1 MEC) after a six-point loss at Charleston. Concord also began conference play with two wins last week and improved to 4-2 (2-0 MEC).
Coaches Corner: Lauren Macer is in her third season as head coach of the Falcons. She holds a record of 44-23, 31-15 MEC. Kim Stephens is in her fourth year at Glenville State and has led the Pioneers to three-straight MEC Championships and two-straight MEC Tournament titles. Stephens is 88-14 overall at GSC with a 62-6 conference record. An elder statesman of the Mountain East, Kenny Osborne is in his 20th year as the leader of the Concord women's team. He currently has a record of 260-288 (53-83 MEC).
Rankings: None of these teams were ranked in the December 2 Women's Basketball Coaches Association poll.
Series History: The Falcons have a solid 10-2 record against Concord, but have struggled against Glenville State. The Pioneers currently lead the series 11-2. Notre Dame last defeated GSC on January 4, 2016. Glenville State has won eight in a row. NDC is looking to bounce back against the Mountain Lions after losing both contests in the 2018-19 season. Before last year, Notre Dame had won 10 straight. Â
Noting the Falcons: Notre Dame is one of just 23 undefeated teams remaining in Division II, and one of 17 with more than five wins. The Falcons' last game was a highlight victory for NDC as they won at West Liberty for the first time since 2016. Notre Dame currently only has two players averaging double digit points in guards
Seina Adachi (19.2) and
Jada Marone (13.3), but the Falcons' two starting forwards are averaging over nine points per game. Marone has been a spark off the bench this season, which has been a big advantage for NDC as the team has score more bench points than its opponents in all six games this season.
Â
Noting the Pioneers: With a 3-3 record, Glenville State has traded wins and losses every game this season. The Pioneers last game was a loss to Charleston so the pattern may point to a win next. GSC has not lost in back-to-back games since the end of the 2016-17 season when the Pioneers lost to Charleston in the MEC Tournament before falling to Cal (Pa.) in the NCAA Tournament. The last losing streak for Glenville State began with a loss to Charleston, and NDC will be looking to repeat that history.
 Â
Noting the Mountain Lions: Concord has been a three-headed monster this season with Riley Fitzwater, Maggie Guynn, and Madison May. Each of these players is averaging over 17 points a game with May leading the way with an average of 24.7. Fitzwater and May are also both averaging over 10 rebounds a game. Fitzwater's 17.3 points and 10.8 rebounds come from just 26.5 minutes of play a night.
