Box Score ELKINS, W.Va. – The first two minutes of Notre Dame College's game at Davis & Elkins would serve as a good preview for how things would fold out throughout the remainder of the game. The NDC women's basketball team would win 70-59 off of a hot first half to improve to 8-1 on the year, including 6-0 on the road.
With just 2:06 ticked off the scoreboard, the Falcons gained a 9-2 lead off the play of
Jessie Stout and
Seina Adachi. Adachi made her first two shots, including a three to score a quick five while Stout loaded up the stat sheet with four points, two rebounds, a steal and an assist.
Stout and Adachi would end the game with team highs in rebounds and points, respectively. Adachi scored 20 points, making eight of her 14 attempts, while Stout recorded 17 rebounds throughout the contest.
Stout's 17 rebounds matches her career high from last season, and are tied for fifth-most in a single game in NDC history.
"Jessie gave us second chances on the offensive end and helped secure defensive stops," said head coach
Lauren Macer. "The team is working to all individually do their part to get those stops, so having her there to rebound missed shots is key in those situations."
Following the lead of the senior duo, Notre Dame won the first quarter by a score of 21-11. The Falcons kept their feet on the gas to outscore D&E 20-8 in the second quarter. With a 41-19 lead built before halftime, NDC was able to create a large enough gap to thwart off any comeback attempts in the second half.
"The team was ready from the start," Macer said. "They moved the ball and spread things out early. They've been focused all season and have worked to get better each time we step on the floor. Tonight's first half was proof that they've already improved so much this season."
Recovering at the break, Davis & Elkins came out in the third quarter ready to defend its home court. The Senators were able to win quarter three 24-14 to bring the game back within 12 points.
D&E would be able to get its deficit all the way down to seven before Notre Dame kicked things back into gear to end the game on a 9-5 run.
The Falcons 70-59 victory keeps them at the top of the Mountain East standings at 4-1 in conference. NDC has been strong on the road this year, winning its first six away games as the team prepares for a three-game home stand.
Jada Marone was second on the team in scoring with 12 points while Stout recorded a double-double by scoring 10 points. Stout filled the box score with three assists, three steals and two blocks. Adachi led the team with four assists and matched Stout's three steals.
Marina Adachi was a spark at the end of the game, scoring seven points in the fourth quarter as she made three of her final four attempts.
Notre Dame begins its home stretch with a 2 p.m. game against West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday, December 14.
