COLUMBUS, Ohio – In dominant fashion, Notre Dame College volleyball held Ohio Dominican University to an average of 16.3 points per set and a .096 hit percentage, as the Falcons completed their 11th sweep of the season and 21st win.
NDC finishes their 2019 non-conference schedule with a record of 14-4. The Falcons were on fire in the first set, finishing with 12 kills and one error in 27 attempts for a .407 hit percentage. Although Notre Dame was playing well, Ohio Dominican matched their scoring and led early in the set. NDC grabbed a 1-0 lead, but did not lead again until an attack error gave the Falcons a 12-11 lead. From that point, the Falcons closed the set with a 13-5 run to win, 25-16.
An early 13-1 second set run pushed Notre Dame out in front over the Panthers, who trailed 16-6, after the NDC offensive output. During that run, the Falcons had five kills and freshman
Sarah DeGeorge put down three consecutive aces. ODU scored 10 of the next 16 points, but the Falcons finished the set and won, 25-16.
In the third set, the Panthers tied the set at nine, but a Falcons' 7-2 run put NDC on top 16-11 and forced Ohio Dominican to take a timeout. The Falcons closed the match with a 25-17 win.
"We had a very efficient night on the court and really finished each set well," said head coach
Travis Hinkle. "We really stuck to our game plan of being aggressive and finding holes in their defense. Ohio Dominican is a different atmosphere to play in, but we got adjusted quickly and took care of business. It's nice to keep things rolling before our last home match Tuesday against an excellent Urbana team."
Freshman
Blaire Barr finished the game with 13 kills, including nine in the third set, and hit percentage of .650. That's the highest amount of kills she has recorded since posting 16 against Point Park University, on October 1. Her 14 points in the match are the most since she had 14.5 points against Urbana, on October 4.
"It was great seeing Blaire really get her spark back and take over the match, especially the third set," Hinkle mentioned. "She changed her shots and they had no answer."
Freshman
Kaye Dregalla posted 10 kills for NDC and senior
Paige Staudacher led the team with 29 assists. Senior
Alexandra Kaeberlein had 16 digs, sophomore
Katie Richardson recorded three blocks, five digs and three aces. DeGeorge finished with 10 digs and three aces. This is the first game that DeGeorge has reached double-digit digs since October 11.
The Panthers' Abbi Gillson had 10 kills and a .318 hit percentage. Allie Rutter had 13 digs and Zoe Carmichael added 14 assists.
The Falcons come home for the final time this season to play Urbana University on Tuesday, November 12. The game is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
