GLENVILLE, W.Va. – To complete a 3-0 week of volleyball, Notre Dame College defeated another Mountain East Conference opponent on the road, Friday afternoon. The Falcons were able to sweep Glenville State College and grab their 17th win of 2019, one more than the program finished with last season.
Glenville State entered the match looking for their first conference win of the campaign. GSC led by as many as three points in the first set, including a 7-4 advantage after scoring three straight points. The Pioneers kept the score close even after NDC went on a 9-3 run, giving the Falcons a 13-10 lead. Notre Dame could not stretch their lead over three points, until an attack error put the visitors up, 19-15. NDC then scored six of the final seven points in the set to win, 25-17. Notre Dame held a .375 hit percentage.
In the second set, a kill by freshman
Blaire Barr broke a 2-2 tie and the Falcons never relinquished the lead. Later, a 15-1 run gave Notre Dame a 23-6 lead. Freshman
Sarah DeGeorge had five kills during that run. The Glenville offense was held to just five kills while committing six errors for a -.025 hit percentage.
Glenville State scored four consecutive points early in the third set to go on a mini run and take a 7-6 lead before NDC scored four straight to retake a 10-7 lead. The set would remain close as Jyra Clark-Casto put down a kill for GSC which cut their deficit to two points, 13-11. The Falcons then closed out the game with a 12-3 onslaught which gave NDC a 25-14 set victory and the sweep of the match.
"Today was a great day on the court for our team, after a little bit of a slow start in the first set, we quickly adjusted and had another great team win," head coach
Travis Hinkle said. "Our team played relaxed and just played Notre Dame Volleyball. It was great to see everyone who dressed today come in and do something to help the team get the win."

Katie Richardson and DeGeorge all had seven kills. Richardson did not commit an error and finished with a .778 hit percentage over two sets while Derda committed just one error in 13 attempts in three sets. DeGeorge recorded three aces on Friday and now has six aces over the last two matches. The Falcons finished with nine aces, which is tied for the sixth most in a three-set match at NDC. Senior
Paige Staudacher led the team with 35 assists and was tied with Richardson for the team lead in blocks, with three. Senior
Alexandra Kaeberlein finished with 19 digs.
Karlei Shaver led Glenville with nine kills and a hit percentage of .348. Sophie Shifferly gave the Pioneers 21 assists.
The Falcons will host West Virginia Wesleyan College, on October 25, in the Murphy Gymnasium. The match is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
