Women's basketball heads on the road for a pair of MEC games

This Week: Notre Dame College travels to Shepherd on Thursday, January 17, before heading to Fairmont State for a Saturday, January 19, contest. The Falcons will play the Rams at 5:30 p.m. and play the Fighting Falcons at 2 p.m.

Records: The Falcons are currently 8-6 (5-3 MEC) after splitting a pair of MEC games last week. NDC lost a close one to Glenville State prior to defeating West Virginia Wesleyan. The Rams are 6-8 (3-5 MEC) after also splitting their MEC games last week. Shepherd lost at Concord before winning at UVa-Wise. Fairmont State is 5-9 (2-6 MEC) and is currently on a three-game skid. Those three losses have all come on the road and FSU is 3-1 in its last four home games.

Coaches Corner: Lauren Macer is in her second season as the head coach of the NDC women's basketball program. She holds a record of 31-15, 22-8 MEC. Jenna Eckleberry is in her fifth season at the helm of the Shepherd program. Eckleberry is 65-72, 47-49 MEC. Steve McDonald has been with Fairmont State for nearly two decades as he is currently in his 19th season. He is 359-189, 67-51 MEC.

Rankings: None of these teams were ranked in the January 13 Women's Basketball Coaches Association poll.

Series History: The Falcons are 7-3 against both Shepherd and Fairmont State. In head coach Lauren Macer's first season Notre Dame went 2-0 against both squads,

Noting the Falcons: Notre Dame may not be shooting threes at the rate it was last season, when the Falcons made 8.3 shots from distance per game, but the team still ranks in the top five in conference with 6.4 threes per game this season. Leading the way for NDC on this front are guards Kyleigh Ramlow and Seina Adachi. Ramlow's 37 threes and Adachi's 27 combine for over 70 percent of the teams makes from beyond the arc this season. Adachi currently has 126 career three-point field goals, which ranks eighth in the NDC record book. Ramlow is close behind with 110 career threes and needs just three more to break into the No. 10 spot in the career rankings for the Falcons.

Noting the Rams: Shepherd boasts another strong duo with Sydney Clayton and Kayla Tibbs who both average over 17 points per game. But the Rams have not seen equal success when these two players score. When Clayton scores above her 17.6 point average, Shepherd is 1-4. When Tibbs scores over her 17.1 average, the Rams are 4-2. The only two times SU has lost when Tibbs scores 18 or more, is when Clayton has also scored 18 or more.

Noting the Fighting Falcons: Fairmont State has not been a consistent three-point shooting team this season with the conference seventh-ranked three-point field goal percentage (.312). The Fighting Falcons have had four games this season where they have made fewer than five threes and shot under 20 percent from distance. But they have also had four games where they have made 10 or more threes with shooting percentages above 40 in three of those four contest. FSU has won all four games that they made double digit threes and have only won one game when they have made fewer than 10.
