This week, men's basketball plays Glenville State and W.Va. Wesleyan at home

This week: Notre Dame College men's basketball will play at home for the first time in nearly a month as they battle Glenville State College on January 10 at 7:30 p.m. and West Virginia Wesleyan College on January 12 at 4 p.m.

Records: The Falcons are currently 8-4 and 4-2 in the Mountain East Conference. Glenville State has a record of 7-5 (2-4 MEC) and WVWC is 5-7 and 2-4 in the MEC.

Coaches Corner: Tim Koenig is the head coach of the Falcons and is in his sixth season with an overall record of 78-83 and 49-67 in the MEC. Justin Caldwell is in his first season as head coach of GSC. Jack Meriwether is in his second season at West Virginia Wesleyan and has a record of 12-25, overall, and is 9-15 in conference.

Rankings: None of these teams are ranked in the NABC Coaches poll.

Series History: NDC is 6-4 against Glenville State since the 2013-14 season and the Falcons are 5-6 against West Virginia Wesleyan since the two teams first met in 2012-13.

Noting the Falcons: Notre Dame has played one game since the holiday break, falling to Lake Erie College by a score of 86-78 on January 5. Will Vorhees recorded 25 points, 16 rebounds and five assists in the game, including 12 points and 15 rebounds in the second half. Bruce Hodges III added 14 points off the bench. Vorhees has now recorded nine double-doubles (points and rebounds) this season, which is tied for third in NCAA Division II. He also averages 23.6 points-per-game which is third in the conference, and leads the conference with 10.9 rebounds-per-game. The senior from Lima, Ohio is first in the MEC with 4.09 offensive rebounds-per-game along with being ranked second with 6.82 defensive rebounds-per-game and blocked shots at 1.36 per game. In Division II ranks, Vorhees is eighth in scoring-per-game, seventh in rebounds-per-game and seventh in offensive rebounds-per-game. Larenz Thurman ranks 10th in the conference at 18.7 points-per-contest, fifth in assists at 5.22 per game and fourth in assist-to-turnover ratio 2.61. Notre Dame leads the Mountain East Conference in free throw percentage (.792) and are third with 13 offensive rebounds-per-game. On defense, they rank first in field goal percentage defense (.430), second in scoring defense (78.2 points-per-game allowed) and blocked shots-per-game (3.33). They are ranked 11th in Division II in free throw percentage (78.9).

Noting the Pioneers: Glenville State defeated Cheney University, 79-67, on January 6. After trailing by one at halftime, GSC scored 52 second half points. Kalin Johnson scored 21 points on 6-of-7 shooting, Phil Bledsoe dropped 19 points and Jamal Pollydore came off the bench to score 18 points and connect on five three pointers. This season, Phil Bledsoe is ninth in NCAA DII by hauling in 7.67 defensive rebounds-per-game and grabs 10.6 total rebounds, which ranks second in the MEC. Ty Robinson leads the conference, and is sixth in the nation in blocked shots per game (2.73) and tied for ninth in total blocks (30). He is also scoring 16.8 points-per-game. Davion Johnson scores 16 points and shoots 55-percent each night. Glenville State has taken 437 three pointers, seventh most in the country. They have made 12.6 threes-per-game, which is first in the MEC and Division II. GSC is second in the MEC, and third in Division II, with 98 points-per-game, but they allow 97.9 points. The Pioneers are at the top of the conference in rebounding with 531 rebounds and 44.2 per game. They hold the top spot with 378 defensive rebounds-per-game, which also ranks third in the nation. They lead the league with 64 blocked shots and average 5.3 per game, which is ranked fifth in NCAA-II.

Noting the Bobcats: West Virginia Wesleyan has not played since December 31, when they defeated Alderson Broaddus University, 84-71. In the second half, W.Va. Wesleyan scored 48 points. Luka Petrovic went 10-for-14 from the field for 28 points, had nine rebounds and five steals. Fred Brondsted scored four three pointers while Dusan Vicentic recorded 17 bench points before fouling out. The Bobcats have lost six of their last eight games. Luka Petrovic is tied for 21st in the country, averaging six assists-per-game. He averages 10.8 points-per-game. Dusan Vicentic leads the team by scoring 15.4 points-per-game and he grabs 4.6 rebounds-per-game and 1.17 blocks-per-game. Clay Todd records 14.4 points-per-game and shoots 49-percent from the field. W.Va. Wesleyan scores the least amount of points in the MEC (69.5) but holds teams to the lowest amount of points (71.2). The Bobcats lead the conference in steals with 101 this season.
