This week: Notre Dame College will close out the regular season with home games against Wheeling Jesuit University at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on April 27 and West Liberty University at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on April 28.
Records: Notre Dame is currently 17-28, overall, and 12-16 in the Mountain East Conference. Wheeling Jesuit holds an overall record of 22-21 and they are 18-10 in the MEC. West Liberty is currently 19-21 (11-17 MEC).
Coaches Corner: Amy Kyler is in her 12th season as head coach at NDC and holds a record of 285-269-1. Sara Pelegreen is the head coach of the Cardinals and has a record of 45-46 and 35-25 in the MEC, in her second season. This season is Herb Minch's 19th campaign in the dugout for West Liberty. Last season, he led the Hilltoppers to a record of 15-31 and 8-24 MEC record, last season.
Rankings: None of these teams are ranked in the NFCA Coaches Poll.
Series History: The Falcons are 6-16 against WJU since the series started in 2013. NDC has put together a record of 14-4 against WLU since 2014.
Noting the Falcons: Notre Dame had a good week, going 4-2. The Falcons split with Lake Erie College and Concord University and swept the University of Virginia's College at Wise. Against UVa-Wise on April 21, the Falcons won game one in the 10th inning, when
Erin Calhoun recorded the only hit of the game for NDC, an RBI single to left field. In game two, the two teams were tied at two when
McKenzie Zigmont singled to right field, for the walk-off win. She was also the winning pitcher of record.
Myranda Rowland leads the Falcons with a batting average of .386 while
Shelby Stephens leads the team in hits (46), home runs (3) and is tied for the lead in doubles (8) and RBI (22). Zigmont holds an ERA of 3.42 and
Taylor Olson has nine wins, this season.
Noting the Cardinals: Wheeling Jesuit also went 4-2 last week, including a sweep of West Liberty on April 18. They won the first game against WLU, 1-0, in the 8th inning when Cassie Holstein reached on a fielder's choice, scoring the go-ahead run. They hung on in game two, with the tying run on second base in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Hilltoppers' Kelly Mullins struck out. Victoria Scott leads the team with a batting average of .353 and tied for the lead with 41 hits. Mallory Chapman has 12 doubles and three homers. Chapman also has 15 wins and an ERA of 1.96, in the pitching circle.
Noting the Hilltoppers: West Liberty went 4-4 last week. They were swept by Wheeling Jesuit, split with Fairmont State and Shepherd and then swept Salem University. In the sweep of Salem, Katie Higginbotham had four hits and five RBI over the two games. Makenzie Amend pitched a complete game shutout in game two, and picked up her 13th win of the season. Kelsi Johnson currently has a batting average of .315 and eight doubles for West Liberty. Katie Beeman and Johnson are tied for the team lead with 49 total bases. Kat Donzella has recorded three home runs and 16 doubles. Amend has thrown 14 complete games and 160 1/3 innings. She has an ERA of 1.48.
