Manoa, McClay given President's Award at Honors Convocation; NDC student-athletes recognized 47 times for academic achievements

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Last Tuesday, April 10, the names of several Notre Dame College student-athletes were called as NDC celebrated the Honors Convocation in Christ the King Chapel.

The event spotlights the top students on campus in the Division of Arts and Humanities, Division of Business Administration, Division of Nursing, Division of Professional Education, Division of Science and Mathematics along with special awards and honor societies.

The President's Award for Academic and Athletic Excellence, presented by Director of Athletics, Scott Swain, is a major award given to the top female and male student-athlete in the classroom and in competition. For the 2017-18 school year, the award was given to Alexis Manoa of women's soccer and Ivan McClay of wrestling.

Manoa is a sports management and communication major with a GPA of 3.46. She was named Mountain East Conference Offensive Player of the Year as a freshman and a senior. The native of Strongsville, Ohio has been named to the First Team All-MEC four-times and is also a four-time All-Region honoree. She holds the NDC career record in points (85) and assists (35) and ranks second in goals (25).

McClay is majoring in Integrated Social Studies and Education, holding a GPA of 3.45. The native of Massillon, Ohio is a three-time All-American, finishing in the top-eight at the 2015, 2017 and 2018 Division II National Championships. He helped NDC win a team national title in 2017 by winning an individual National Championship at 125 lbs. as a redshirt-junior. He then finished in third place at the 2018 National Championships, wrestling at 125 lbs. In his career at NDC, McClay went 5-1 at the National Duals at 125 lbs. and 3-1 when competing at 133 lbs.

"Every year I present at this event, I am truly amazed at the number of student-athletes we have receiving awards," Swain said. "I am so proud of the academic accomplishments of all of our student-athletes. They are absolutely achieving great things in the classroom. Our coaches do a great job of supporting the fact that Falcon student-athletes are expected to excel both academically and athletically."
