This week: Notre Dame College will play Urbana University on April 18 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. in Urbana, Ohio. The Falcons will then come home to play Lake Erie College at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on April 19, the University of Virginia's College at Wise on April 21 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. and then Concord University on April 22 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Senior Day: The Falcons will honor their three seniors before the games on Sunday, April 22.
Schedule Change: The Lake Erie road games scheduled for April 19 are now home games to be played on Normandy Field.
Records: Notre Dame is currently 12-25, overall, and 8-14 in the Mountain East Conference. Urbana is 6-24 and 4-18 in the MEC while Lake Erie has an overall record of 9-15. UVa-Wise is 23-15 (12-10 MEC) and Concord is 12-20 (9-13 MEC).
Coaches Corner: Amy Kyler is in her 12th season as head coach at NDC and holds a record of 280-266-1. Kira Zeiter is in her third season as head coach at Urbana with a 136-225 (29-81 MEC) record. Rebecca Dyer is in her fourth season as head coach of Lake Erie softball, last season the Storm went 12-26. Karen and Nick Bitter are the co-head coaches of the Cavaliers. Last season, UVa-Wise finished with a record of 36-19 (22-8 MEC). Alisa Tasler is in her sixth season at the helm of the Concord softball program and has a record of 178-173.
Rankings: None of these teams are ranked in the NFCA Coaches Poll.
Series History: The Falcons are 9-10-1 against Urbana since 2013, 4-1 versus Lake Erie since 2013. Against UVa-Wise, NDC is 2-6 since 2014 and when taking on Concord, Notre Dame is 5-6 since 2014.
Noting the Falcons: Notre Dame went 2-4 last week.
Myranda Rowland led the way by hitting .722 (13-for-18) scoring five runs and knocking in three RBI. She is currently on a seven game hitting streak and had five multi-hit games last week.
McKenzie Zigmont was dominant in the pitcher's circle in both of the Falcons' wins. She pitched a complete game, allowing one run and striking out five hitters on April 14, in a 3-1 win over West Virginia State. She also pitched a complete game against Charleston, allowing one run and striking out six in the 4-1 victory.
Noting the Blue Knights: Urbana went 0-6 last week, losing to Ohio Dominican, West Virginia State and Charleston. The closest game of the week was a 5-4 loss to WVSU, when the Yellow Jackets hit a walk-off double in the ninth inning. In that game, Jenna VanHoose, Riley Curtis and Britney Bonno all had two hits. Carly Allen struck out four in 8 2/3 innings.
Noting the Storm: Lake Erie won three out of their four games last week, sweeping Ursuline College on April 10 and then splitting a double-header with Ohio Valley. Allyson Deemer pitched in both games against Ursuline for LEC. In a 1-0 win, she pitched seven, scoreless innings and allowed four hits. She came on in relief in the 4-2 win on the same day, picking up the save and pitching two innings, allowing one hit.
Noting the Cavaliers: UVa-Wise went 3-3 last week, sweeping Concord in two games, being swept by Shepherd and then splitting with Fairmont State. All of their losses were decided by three runs, or less. Taylor Brandts threw in four of the games and allowed only six earned runs in 23 innings. However, she had a lack of run support and finished the week with a record of 1-3 including two walk-off losses. Kaylee Jones recorded nine hits and six RBI in the six games.
Noting the Mountain Lions: Concord went 0-6 in their games last week, falling to UVa-Wise, Fairmont State and Shepherd. CU is 2-8 over their last 10 games. Their closest game was a 3-0 loss to Shepherd. In that game, Jenna Witt went 3-for-3 at the plate and Darby Fitzpatrick pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief.
