SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – No. 5 West Liberty University, who leads NCAA Division II in points scored per game, shows offensive abilities as they defeat Notre Dame College by a score of 112-68 on Wednesday night.
The Hilltoppers (25-1, 20-1 MEC) jumped out to an early 9-2 lead after Dan Monteroso knocked down a three pointer before Dalton Bolon sunk two in a row.
NDC (5-22, 3-18 MEC) did cut the WLU lead to five points, 18-13, with 14:54 remaining before the halftime break, following three successful free throws by freshman
Levi Frankland.
West Liberty then put together another run and with 8:23 to go, Evan French increased the lead to 21 points, 40-19, with a layup.
A three pointer by redshirt-sophomore
Drew Scarberry cut the deficit to 13 points, 44-31, with 4:38 remaining in the first half, but that would be as close as NDC would get before the intermission.
At halftime, the Hilltoppers led 57-39. Bolon led the team with 14 points in 10 minutes and shot 50-percent. Monteroso added 13 points and shot 6-for-7 from the field for WLU. Redshirt-junior
Angelo Cugini led the Falcons with 11 points, while freshman
Halil Parks added eight points off of the bench. NDC shot 50-percent (15-for-30) in the half.
West Liberty outscored Notre Dame 55-29 in the second half. The Hilltoppers, who shot 51-percent, had 11 players score in the second half.
Bolon finished with 23 points and hit five three pointers while Monteroso recorded 17 points and shot 73-percent. WLU shot 49-percent and had 47 bench points.
For Notre Dame, Cugini scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the game. Scarberry scored 14 points. The Falcons had 34 points in the paint.
Notre Dame ends their regular season with senior day, at home, against Urbana University on February 24. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
