Records: The Falcons currently hold a 5-21 overall record and are 3-17 in the Mountain East Conference. Â The Hilltoppers are currently 24-1, overall, and 19-1 in the MEC. Urbana has a 4-22 record and they are 3-17 in the conference.
Coaches Corner: Tim Koenig is currently in his fifth season at the helm of the Falcons and holds an overall record of 69-78 and has an MEC record of 44-64. Ben Howlett is in his first season as head of the Hilltoppers. Nick Dials is also in his inaugural season as head coach as Urbana.
Rankings: West Liberty is fifth in the NABC Coaches Poll and they are first in the Atlantic Regional Ranking.
Series History: Notre Dame is currently 1-9 against WLU since the 2013-14 season. On December 2, NDC lost to West Liberty by a score of 103-84. They hold an all-time record of 11-4 against Urbana since 2001-02. Notre Dame beat UU 97-85 in overtime on January 20.
Noting the Falcons: Notre Dame lost to Concord University on February 15, 95-86.
Levi Frankland scored 22 points and shot 3-of-5 from three point range.
Drew Scarberry dropped 17 points and
Kyauta Taylor added 14 points, five rebounds, seven assists and five steals. The team shot 48-percent from the floor. On February 18, the Falcons lost to the University of Virginia's College at Wise 94-84, on the road. Taylor scored 28 points and grabbed six rebounds. He shot 8-for-12 from the field and 5-for-8 from three. Scarberry scored 20 points while
Angelo Cugini recorded 14 points and 11 boards. The Falcons shot 43-percent from three.
Kyauta Taylor ranks seventh in the MEC in scoring at 17.8 points-per-game, second in free throw percentage at 85-percent and second in steals at 2.12 per game.
Angelo Cugini grabs 8.2 rebounds, which is fourth in the conference. Scarberry (2.96) is fourth in the MEC in three pointers made per game and Taylor (2.73) is fifth. NDC ranks fifth in the conference in scoring offense with 81.5 points-per-contest and they are third in three point field goal percentage (37.5-percent). The Falcons have made 312 three pointers, which ranks second in the conference and seventh in the nation. Notre Dame has dished out 406 assists this season, which is third in the MEC.
Noting the Hilltoppers: On February 15, West Liberty University was held to their lowest point total of the season, but still beat West Virginia Wesleyan College, 77-66. Dalton Bolon scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds, Dan Monteroso scored 12 points and shot 50-percen and Jordan Watson scored 12 points off the bench. The team shot 44-percent, overall, and 85-percent at the free throw line. The Hilltoppers defeated Glenville State College 105-66 on February 17. WLU scored 57 points in the first half. Dan Monteroso had 22 points and six rebounds while Tyler Primmer added 15 of the Hilltoppers 63 bench points.
Dan Monteroso is fourth in the MEC in scoring at 19.1 points-per-game, fourth with a field goal percentage of 53-percent, fourth in steals with 51 and fourth in blocked shot with 23. West Liberty has three players (Jordan Watson, Evan French, Dalton Bolon) in the top ten in the MEC in three point field goal percentage. Bolon makes 3.12 threes per game, which is the best in the Mountain East. The Hilltoppers currently hold the top mark among MEC teams in scoring offense (107.2 ppg), scoring margin ( 25.2), free throw percentage (76-percent), field goal percentages (49-percent), three point percentage (39-percent), three-point field goals made (329), offensive rebounds (390), defensive rebounds (706), assists (526), steals (270), assist/turnover ratio (2.02) and turnover margin ( 8.80). WLU is top five in the nation in three point field goal attempts (3rd), assist/turnover ratio (1st), assists-per-game (1st), offensive rebounds-per-game (2nd), scoring margin (2nd), scoring offense (1st), steals-per-game (3rd), three point field goals-per-game (2nd), three point field goals made (4th), total assists (3rd), total rebounds-per-game (3rd), total steals (3rd), turnover margin (1st) and turnovers forced (5th).
Noting the Blue Knights: Urbana lost to UVa-Wise, 85-77, on February 15. Carlas Jackson led the team with 16 points and shot 5-for-9. Ethan Snapp went 6-of-8 from the field and finished with 15 points. The Blue Knights shot 49-percent and 43-percent from three. On February 17, UU fell to Concord 63-60 Malik Jacobs scored 21 points and hauled in five rebounds. Aj Washington scored 14 points and had seven rebounds. The team shot just 38-percent in the game.
Malik Jacobs is sixth in free throw percentage at 81-percent. Urbana is third in the conference in free throw percentage at 74-percent on the season and fourth in three point percentage at 36.8-percent. The Blue Knights have 82 blocked shots, which is fourth in the MEC.
