This week:Â Notre Dame College will stay on the road to play the University of Virginia's College at Wise on November 19 at 7:30 p.m. They will then battle Carlow University on November 21 and that game will begin at 7 p.m.
Records: The Falcons are currently 3-1 and 1-0 in the Mountain East Conference while UVa-Wise is also 3-1 (1-0 MEC). Carlow is 1-6 on the season.
Coaches Corner:Â Tim Koenig is the head coach of the Falcons and enters his sixth season with an overall record of 73-80 and 46-65 in the MEC. Blake Mellinger is entering his sixth season on the bench for the Cavaliers and he has an overall record of 43-104 while his teams are 30-81 in MEC play. Tim Keefer is the head coach for Carlow.
Rankings: None of these teams are ranked in the NABC Coaches poll.
Series History: NDC is 8-3 against Virginia-Wise since the 2013-14 season and the Falcons have never played Carlow.
Noting the Falcons: Notre Dame went 1-1 last week. In their home opener, the Falcons fell to Roberts Wesleyan, 83-67, despite 20 points from
Will Vorhees.
Isaiah Sanders scored 14 points and grabbed six offensive rebounds. NDC bounced back in their first conference game against Concord. They trailed by seven at the half, but the defense came up big with seven steals in the second half and they held the Mountain Lions to just 25 points and 21-percent shooting from the field. NDC won, 80-69. Vorhees led the way with 28 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks. He is third in NCAA Division II with four double-doubles this season and ranks 18th in total blocks, with nine.
Larenz Thurman added 21 points in his first game of the season, against Concord. Vorhees is averaging 23.3 points-per-game and hauls in 11.3 rebounds-per-game, which ranks 11th in the nation. He is also shooting 48-percent from the field and 83-percent from the free throw stripe.
Isaiah Sanders is averaging 14.5 points-per-game on 61-percent shooting and also grabs 1.5 steals-per-game. Notre Dame has five players who are averaging double-digit scoring.
Noting the Cavaliers: UVa-Wise is already 2-0 in Wise, Va. and they will get a lot of home cooking in the early part of the campaign as seven of their next 10 games are at home. The Cavaliers had to comeback in their home opener last Thursday, as Alice Lloyd College led the game, 43-35, at halftime. UVa-Wise scored 44 points in the second half and won, 79-73. Five players scored in double-digits as Michael Seals led the team with 21 points and six assists. Tajh Eason recorded 16 points and 15 rebounds in 29 minutes on the floor. ALC shot just 27-percent in the second half. On Saturday, the Cavs led Urbana by 15 points at halftime and went on to win, 93-70. Seals had 22 points, seven assists and three steals in the game. Eric Okenchi recorded 16 points and seven rebounds. Seals leads the team with 22 points-per-game and he is sixth in the nation with 7.8 assists-per-game. Okenchi hauls in 4.25 offensive rebounds-per-game, which is 19th in NCAA-II. UVa-Wise averages 8.3 steals in each contest.
Noting the Celtics: Carlow lost both of their games last weekend, on back-to-back nights. The Celtics have allowed over 100 points in their last three games and have allowed 90 points, or more, in five of their seven games. CU played Slippery Rock University on Wednesday. Carlow allowed 60 points in the second half and eventually fell by a score of 108-70. Brenlee Reedy had 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists. The Celtics had 22 turnovers. On Thursday, Glenville State College scored 71 points in the first half and won the game, 121-89. Rece Henneman gave Carlow 17 points and 11 rebounds, including seven offensive boards. Tony Acrie went 10-for-14 from the field and finished with 21 points and nine rebounds.
