Hot shooting gives Charleston a win over Notre Dame

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – On Saturday afternoon, the University of Charleston jumped out to a big lead midway through the first half and never turned back as they beat Notre Dame College by a score of 100-62.

The Falcons (5-15, 3-11 MEC) fell behind by seven points to begin the game, but then rode a 8-3 run to get within two points, 10-8. Senior Oliver Megins hit a jumper, followed by redshirt-sophomore Drew Scarberry and redshirt-junior Angelo Cugini knocking down back-to-back threes.

NDC would then fall down by eight points, 16-8, before clawing back within striking distance. Freshman Levi Frankland had a big hand in the comeback effort as he scored seven of the Falcons 13 points during their 13-7 run. That run made the Falcons' deficit just two points, 23-21, with 10:35 to go before halftime.

Charleston (12-8, 8-6 MEC) responded in a big way with a 17-3 offensive outburst and led Notre Dame 40-24, at the media timeout with 4:23 remaining before halftime. Ke'Andre Gibson had five points and assisted on three shots for UC during the run.

At the halftime break, the Golden Eagles led NDC 49-34. Senior Kyauta Taylor and Frankland each had 10 points for NDC in the first half.
