SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – No. 2 Notre Dame College was victorious in eight of their matches against No. 16 West Liberty University on Friday, winning with an overall score of 36-7.
The Falcons improve to 6-1 in dual meets this season.
Sophomore
Kameron Teacher led off at 285 lbs. Teacher, who is ranked first in NCAA Division II in the heavyweight division, pinned Ronnie D'Amico for six points.
Redshirt-senior
Ivan McClay (125) and redshirt-junior
Drew Walker (141) won their matches by major decisions.
Sophomore
Taylor Misuna (149) and senior
Anthony Dailey (165) both were victorious by technical falls for five points, each.
With their wins tonight, Misuna and sophomore
Fernando Silva still have not lost a match in a dual meet.
"I thought we had a great atmosphere here tonight, I thought we had a good crowd and the athletes wrestled really well on their feet," said head coach
Frank Romano. "It was a pretty good score for us and I feel good going into the next match, but we're going to have to turn it around because we have another big meet on Tuesday against Lake Erie, which is a big rival of ours."
Romano also spoke about the lineup and a few position battles.
"We pretty much have a good idea in every weight class except a couple," he said. "(Tony) Vezzetti is the one who has been out of the lineup for a couple weeks now because he nicked up his knee, and we have a couple weight classes who are battling it out. But we're getting close. It's a long season and we're trying to accommodate ourselves so we stay fresh for the end, which is the most important part."
The Falcons will wrestle at home against No. 23 Lake Erie College on January 23. The event will begin at 7 p.m.
