Notre Dame downs Gannon

ERIE, Pa. - The Notre Dame College baseball team got things going early at Gannon University with a three-run opening inning. NDC kept its lead through all nine innings to earn a 7-3 win against the non-conference opponent.

In the first inning a single from Zach Santoro and a double from Nate Rearick drove in three runs. Rearick now has seven RBIs in the last five games. TJ Lett followed the next inning with an RBI double of his own to give the Falcons a 4-0 lead.

Gannon attempted to climb back in the game with two runs of its own in the second inning, but Danny Beaver pushed Notre Dame past the Golden Knights with a home run in the fourth inning to score three and push the lead to 7-2. Beaver also scored two of the first four runs in the game to move his season total to a team-high 21 runs.

Santoro, Beaver, Lett and Ricky Phillips all recorded two hits during the game as the Falcons gathered 11 total.

Defensively, NDC played a perfect game, committing no errors and collecting 25 of the 27 outs needed to defeat Gannon.

Earning the win was lefty Kenny Pierson who got his team through the first seven innings before handing things over to Tyler Dalzell and Carter Daniels who pitched one inning apiece. Pierson struck out two batters and is now 2-2 this year.

This is the second victory in a row for the Falcons as they have won three of their last four games to improve their record to 7-20 on the season.

Notre Dame will return home this weekend for a four-game series against West Liberty on Saturday and Sunday, April 8 and 9. Both days will feature doubleheaders beginning at 1 p.m. in Avon, Ohio at Sprenger Stadium.
