Notre Dame drops two in Concord

ATHENS, W. Va. – Following an hour and-a-half weather delay, Notre Dame College lost two games, on Thursday afternoon, against Concord University, falling 3-0, in game one and 3-2, in game two.

The Falcons (19-24 overall, 9-15 MEC) have now lost three consecutive games, overall, and eight straight road games. The Mountain Lions (26-22, 15-9 MEC) are now 8-2 in their last 10 games.

Game 1

The only runs of the game came from Concord in the second and third inning. In the second inning, Lauren Lewis tripled to right center, which scored Allie Reid from first base.

The Mountain Lions scored another run in the bottom of the third inning. With two outs, CU got back-to-back singles and then Reid came up big with a two-run double.

NDC had only two players reach third base in the game as Reid was dominant in the pitching circle for Concord.

For Notre Dame, Taylor Olson (12-11) was given the loss, even though she allowed only three runs and two of them were earned, over six innings. Nicole Luciano had two hits in the game.

Reid (11-7) started the game for Concord and was awarded the win after she went seven, shutout innings. Along with grabbing two RBIs at the plate, she also struck out three batters. Lewis had two hits in the contest.

Game 2

Notre Dame took an early lead when Emily Kusmits lead off with a double to left center field and Maria Vanadia hit a two-out, RBI single.

Concord tied the game at one in the bottom of the first inning. Alayna Furr singled and then stole second base. She moved to third on a single and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Lauren Lewis.

In the bottom of the second inning, the Mountain Lions got a single by Lindsey Stahl. An error by the left fielder, Sarah Depp, allowed Allie Reid to score from first and Stahl to reach third base. Stahl then scored on a passed ball.

Amy Hoover led off the fourth inning with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and to third on a ground out. She scored on a wild pitch. However, the Falcons stranded a runner on third base in the sixth inning and were unable to push another run across the plate.

For NDC, Emily Kusmits (6-6) was the starting pitcher and was saddled with the loss. She went six innings, allowing only three runs and one earned run. Vanadia and Hoover both had two hits.

Darby Fitzpatrick (6-3) was the winning pitcher as she started and struck out four hitters while allowing two runs. Furr had two hits.

The Falcons will travel to the University of Virginia-Wise for a double-header, tomorrow, April 21. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m.
