Charleston's offense is too much for NDC

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Notre Dame College lost both games on Friday afternoon, 11-4 and 10-2, as the University of Charleston scored a combined 21 runs on 27 hits over the two games.

The losses for the Falcons (16-21 overall, 7-13 MEC) drops their record, at home, to 7-7 and is their seventh loss in their last eight games. The Golden Eagles (28-11, 16-4) are now 8-2 in their last 10 games.

Game 1

NDC put the first run on the board when Erin Calhoun went deep to left field for her first home run of the season, in the bottom of the second inning.

The lead was short lived as UC scored four runs in the top of the third inning. Natalie Beck led off with a single but was out on the next play with a fielder's choice to the shortstop. With runners on first and second, Laura Ashlock doubled to left center, plating two runs. Two batters later, Alyssa Stanley hit a two run homer to right center field.

In the fifth inning, the Golden Eagles scored four more runs on an RBI single by Stanley and three run bomb to left field off the bat of Ansley Warner, putting UC up, 8-1.

In the sixth inning, Charleston scored a run on a fielder's choice, an RBI single and an RBI groundout. They went up 11-1 on NDC.

The Falcons put together a small comeback in the bottom of the sixth inning. With runners on first and third base, Shelby Stephens dropped a single down the left field line, scoring a run. Taylor Stoltz walked to load the bases for Halli Swiger, who also walked, scoring a run. Stephens then scored on a wild pitch, capping the three run inning, making it an 11-4 game.

For the Falcons, Calhoun and Hoover both had two hits. Taylor Olson (9-11) was given the loss after she was the starting pitcher and went five innings, allowing a season-high eight runs on 11 hits. Rachelle Miller pitched an inning and allowed three runs.

Monica Carter and Alyssa Stanley had two hits while Beck and Shelby Ume both had three hits. Ashlock had three RBI and Stanley had four runs batted in. Alli Burdette (13-6) picked up the win after she started and pitched a complete game, allowing four runs, two earned.

Game 2

The Falcons, again, got on the board first in the second game. Sarah Depp and Nicole Luciano hit back-to-back singles. Depp then stole third and Luciano moved to second on the throw. Maria Vanadia walked to load the bases and Erin Calhoun grounded out to shortstop, scoring the first run of the game.

The Golden Eagles quickly tied the game when Haleigh Christopher hit a lead-off homer to center field.

Charleston opened the game up in the third inning. Ansley Warner scored when Natalie Beck reached on an error by second baseman, Shelby Stephens. Later in the inning, Laura Ashlock hit a grand slam to left field.

Notre Dame added a run in the bottom of the third inning but then UC, leading 6-2, scored a run on a single and then Warner hit a three run home run, putting the Golden Eagles up by eight runs.
