AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Notre Dame College baseball team lost 15-3 to No. 6 Grand Valley State on Thursday in the team's second game against a top 10 opponent in the past four days.
The Lakers got things going offensively early, scoring two runs in the second inning and kept things rolling throughout the game with a seven-run eighth inning. GVSU utilized seven extra-base hits to record 15 runs, 15 hits and 15 RBIs.
The Falcons had three extra-base hits of their own, including a homerun from
Zach Santoro. The single shot is the fourth home run of the year for NDC and the second since arriving in Florida.
Santoro was one of eight Notre Dame players that were able to record a hit against the sixth-ranked team.
TJ Lett is on a five-game hit streak to match his hit streak which started the season. Lett has now recorded at least one hit in 10 of 11 games this season. Last year, the Willoughby, Ohio native had a nine-game hit streak as his only streak to last more than three games.
Nick Ely, not to be outdone by his teammate, is on a six-game hit streak and has recorded a hit in all but one game as well. Last season, Ely had three hit streaks of five games or more and had a season-long nine-game hitting streak to match that of Lett's.
The Falcons had a season-high three stolen bases against the Lakers as Santoro,
Danny Beaver and
Adam Purdy each received the green light.
Notre Dame will finish its run in Florida Saturday, March 11, in a double header against Ohio Dominican. The games are set to begin at 9:15 and 11:45 a.m.
