LAKELAND, Fla. - The Notre Dame College baseball team lost 4-0 and 11-2 to Ohio Dominican on Saturday morning in its final games in Florida.
In the first game it was a battle of pitching as both teams starters threw complete games. Both
Josh Armbruster and Brad Wilson also struck out 10 batters. The 10 strikeouts mark a season-high for NDC.
Ohio Dominican got things going early with a two-run first inning, tacking on another run in the third. Justin Childers was involved in all three of those runs for the Panthers as he drove in the first and scored the next two.
During game one,
Danny Beaver and
Jacob Carpenter each recorded two hits while
TJ Lett recorded one. Lett's hitting streak now stands at six games. He did not play in the second game of the doubleheader.
In game two, the Panthers utilized extra-base hits as they connected on three home runs and a triple to score eight of their 11 runs. The Falcons didn't get on the board until the seventh and final inning, scoring two runs that were brought in by Beaver and
Ricky Phillips.
Six NDC players tallied at least one hit during the second game for a total of nine on the day. Beaver stole a base in each of the games to move his season total to eight. He has successfully stolen all eight attempts this year.
Notre Dame College returns home next week for a single game against Mercyhurst before going back on the road. The game against Mercyhurst is scheduled for Wednesday, March 15, at 2 p.m. and will be played in Avon, Ohio.
