SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Notre Dame Falcons outscored the Concord Mountain Lions in every quarter, and scored a season-high number of points, in their 97-50 victory, at home on Saturday afternoon.
On top of being in the midst of a six-game winning streak, the Falcons (13-12, 12-8 MEC) have also won nine of their last 10 games. The Mountain Lions (7-19, 5-15 MEC) have lost three of their last four games and are 10 games below the .500-mark in conference play.
The Falcons started to expand their lead early in the game. With 4:27 left in the first quarter, the game was tied at eight. However, the Falcons did not allow Concord to score another point until the second quarter.
Notre Dame went on a 15-0 run over the final four and-a-half minutes of the first stanza. During the run, the Falcons were able to get five points from
Kim Cook and
Seina Adachi, each.
Terrina Robinson hit a layup, 20 seconds into the second quarter, to cap NDC's 17-0 offensive run. The Falcons had already expanded their lead to 21 points, when Adachi hit a layup, at the 7:25-mark.
At the halftime break, Notre Dame led by 21 points, 45-24.
Kelsey Miller had 14 points for Notre Dame in the first half. As a team, the Falcons shot 15-for-26 (58-percent) from the field and shot 5-for-9 (56-percent) from behind the three-point line.
Meanwhile, CU did not have a player score in double-digits in the first half and shot 10-for-36 (28-percent), overall.
In the second half, it was more of the same as the Falcons continued to make baskets and lock down defensively. NDC opened up the third quarter on a 9-0 run, putting the Falcons up by 30 points, 54-24, when Cook hit two free throws with 7:08 remaining.
Maggie King knocked down a pair of free throws with eight seconds left in the third quarter, to put the Falcons up, 67-32.
Again, Notre Dame expanded their lead to begin the fourth quarter. NDC scored the first five points of the final quarter, pushing the lead to 37 points, 72-35.
The lead had exceeded the half-century mark, when the Falcons took a 51 point lead, 97-46 with 1:21 left in the game.
For the Falcons, the 97 point performance is the most that the program has scored since Feb. 18, 2012, when they scored 98 points. The 47-point victory is the largest margin of victory since the 2008-2009 season. Miller had 18 points and five rebounds.
Jessie Stout added 12 points and seven rebounds, while Cook had 10 points and seven boards. Adachi and
Kyleigh Ramlow both had 11 points. NDC shot 56-percent from the field and 83-percent from the free throw line.
Lindsey Overbey was the only player to score in double digits for the Mountain Lions. She had 11 points and five rebounds. Concord shot 19-for-63 (30-percent) from the field.
The Falcons play their next game in Wheeling, W.Va. as they will take on Wheeling Jesuit University on Feb. 23. Tipoffs is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
