Notre Dame snaps a three-game losing streak as they beat the Cavaliers.

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio  – The Notre Dame Falcons had four players score in double-digits and shot 55-percent as a team in a 93-86 victory over the University of Virginia-Wise Cavaliers, on Thursday night.

The Falcons (16-9, 10-9 MEC) have now beaten UVA-Wise in both meetings this season. NDC is 9-0 this season when scoring 90, or more, points. The Cavaliers (7-18, 5-14 MEC) have now lost two games in a row and have lost five of their last seven games.

NDC went on top by six points, early, as Will Vorhees had six of the first eight points for the Falcons, who led 8-2 with 16:15 remaining in the first half.

With just under 13 minutes remaining in the first half, Drew Scarberry got hot for the Falcons. He hit his first three-pointer with 12:55 to go and then knocked down two additional threes prior to the 10-minute mark.

Scarberry would nail another three with just under nine minutes to go, putting the Falcons up, 27-20. However, the UVA-Wise offense made a charge at Notre Dame.

After two three-point baskets, two free throws and a layup, the Cavaliers were able to put together a 10-0 run to go up 30-27. With 7:08 to go in the half, the Cavs had taken their first lead since they held a 2-0 advantage at the beginning of the contest.

After falling behind 37-33, following a three-point basket by Michal Seals, Notre Dame got a three-pointer, a layup, and a two-point jump shot from Kyauta Taylor who put together his own 7-0 run to put the Falcons back in front, 40-37.

A three-pointer by Kobie Johnson, with seven seconds left, broke a 42-42 tie and gave the Falcons a 45-42 advantage at the half.

In the first half, Taylor shot 6-for-9 (67-percent) and had 14 points for Notre Dame. Vorhees had 10 points and seven boards and Scarberry added 12 points. As a team, the Falcons shot 18-for-33 (55-percent).

For UVA-Wise in the first half, Seals had 19 points as he shot 7-for-9 from the field and made all three of his three-point attempts. Dimitri Sousa added 11 points.

Virginia-Wise shot the ball well to start the second half and with 16:38 remaining in the game, a Seals layup put the Cavs up by five points, 53-48.

After tying the game a couple times, NDC was able to break through as Taylor nailed a jumper at the 12:21-mark, to put the Falcons up 62-60. When the Falcons grabbed the lead, they never gave it back to the Cavaliers.

As Notre Dame continued to shoot the ball well and increase the defensive pressure, they put together a 10-6 run over the next three minutes, going up 72-66.

NDC's largest lead of the game came at the 3:31-mark in the second half when Vorhees got a layup to go, pushing the lead to 11 points, 87-76.

The Falcons scored 48 points in the second half and shot 20-for-36 (56-percent) from the field. Overall, they shot 38-for-69 (55-percent) in the game. Scarberry led the team with 26 points, making eight threes in the process. Vorhees and Taylor both had 24 points. Vorhees had 17 rebounds, including six offensive boards. Ja'Sean Lewis had 12 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists and five blocks.

The Cavaliers shot 46-percent from the field, for the game, and 48-percent from behind the three-point line. Seals finished with 33 points, seven boards and six assists. Taiwo Badmus had 25 points, including 21 in the second half. Souza finished with 20 points.

The Falcons will stay home and take on Concord University on Feb. 18 in the Murphy Gymnasium. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
