The Falcons hit 10 threes in the second half and shoot 50-percent for the game in their win

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Notre Dame Falcons outscored West Virginia State, 58-41, in the second half and took care of the Yellow Jackets, 90-75 on Wednesday night.

The Falcons (15-6, 9-6 MEC) are now on a two-game winning streak and are 3-2 over their last five games. The Yellow Jackets (6-15, 3-12 MEC) are on a three-game losing streak and are 1-9 in their last 10 games.

Early on, Notre Dame struggled to start up offensively. West Virginia State took an early 13-5 lead, at the 14:32-mark in the first half, as NDC began the game, 2-for-10 from the field and 1-for-7 from the three-point line.

A layup by Kyauta Taylor and a three by Drew Scarberry on back-to-back possessions for the Falcons cut the deficit to one point, 13-12, with 12:56 remaining.

Notre Dame took their first lead of the game, 18-16, a few possessions later when Taylor spun around and hit an off-balanced shot in the lane at the 10:36-mark in the first half.

Neither team could put together another major run in the time remaining before halftime. In fact, the game saw the lead change nine times over the final 10 minutes of the half, with neither team holding a lead larger than three points.

At the half, West Virginia State held a 34-32 lead over Notre Dame.

For the Falcons, Taylor scored 13 points while shooting 6-for-11 from the floor. Scarberry had 11 points while coming off the bench. NDC shot 13-for-34 (38-percent) from the field.

The Yellow Jackets shot 11-for-33 (33-percent) from the field and 7-for-22 (32-percent) from three-point range. Ernest Jenkins had 11 points and was the only player on WV State to score in double-digits in the first half.

After the game was tied at 37, early in the second half, Notre Dame exploded for an 11-4 run, taking their largest lead of the game, 48-41 with 15:39 remaining.

NDC took their first double-digit lead with 12:40 left in the game, when they held a 55-44 advantage, as Will Vorhees went on a 7-0 run by himself.

Scarberry knocked down a free throw with 2:58 to go in the second half, which put the Falcons on top by 26 points, 88-62, their largest lead of the game.

The Falcons' Ja'Sean Lewis finished one rebound shy of a triple-double, as he recorded 10 points, nine rebounds and 13 assists. Taylor finished with 24 points and grabbed nine boards. Vorhees added 17 points and had 13 rebounds for his 10th double-double of the season. Scarberry finished with a career-high 31 points and tied a career-high in three-pointers made, with eight tonight. NDC shot 35-for-70 (50-percent) from the field, including going 22-for-36 (61-percent) from the field in the second half. They also outrebounded West Virginia State, 55-25.

For the Jackets, Ernest Jenkins finished with 22 points and Terrance Jenkins finished with 10 points. WV State went 24-for-60 (40-percent) from the field in the game.

The Falcons will take on the University of Charleston, in Charleston, West Virginia on Feb. 4. The game is scheduled to tipoff at 4 p.m.
