Â
Noting the Falcons: Notre Dame lost its first MEC game last week at West Liberty 98-94 despite shooting 57.6 percent from the field. That was the highest shooting percentage for the Falcons all season as they made 38 of their 66 attempts. The loss also put an end to a five-game winning streak. Over the two MEC games last week, NDC made a combined 10 three-point shots after making 14 or more in the previous three games. Notre Dame has scored plenty this season with a 78.1 points per game average, which ranks third in the Mountain East. The Falcons have given up a lot of points as well, however, with opponents averaging 77.9 points per game (second-worst in the MEC).
Â
Noting the Yellow Jackets: West Virginia State is led in scoring by Aurreshae Hines with 16.6 points per game. Hines is the lone Yellow Jacket to average double-digit scoring. Last season, WVSU had four players averaging at least 10 points. They haven't shot the ball well from distance as the Yellow Jackets have the lowest three-point shooting percentage in the MEC (.244). NDC is on the other end of the rankings as the Falcons lead the conference with a 38.9 shooting percentage from beyond the arc.
Â
Noting the Golden Eagles: Charleston has been utilizing its defense this season as the team allows just 58.57 points per game. With the best defense in the Mountain East Conference so far this season, UC has been able to outscore its opponents by an average of more than 10 points. When playing the Golden Eagles this season, teams have shot made just 33 percent of their field goal attempts and just 25 percent of their three-point attempts. Not only do they make other teams miss, but Charleston also rebounds those misses better than any other team in the conference with a +8.0 rebound margin.
